DS's class is walking in the city's Founders Day parade. The theme is sports:let's get moving! The kids were all asked to come dressed as a sports player. This mining at drop off this mom was talking to all the moms of girls and showing them a picture of this cheerleader outfit she found and wants all the little girls to wea. Now, cheerleading is definitely athletic, especially once you get into tumbling etc. And if a little girl wants to wear a Cheerleader outfit, cool. Still fits with the theme.
What I have a problem with is this mom's idea of dressing all the little girls in short skirts because "wouldn't it be so cute for the girls to be cheering on the boys?" No. What about teaching little girls that the can play sports just like the boys can and not that their job is to cheer on the big strong boys. Yes these kids are 4 and 5 and I'm probably over thinking it but the whole thing gave me the icks

Me too. Because I would be pissed if my kid originally wanted to dress as a soccer player or whatever but after hearing what all the other girls were doing, wanted to dress as a cheerleader. Or felt like she needed to dress like all the other girls.
FWIW, I was a cheerleader but I played other sports too. I would want DD to dress up as whatever she wanted and IF that was a cheerleader, that would be fine. If she wanted to dress as something else but felt peer pressure to do what this mom was suggesting, I'd be very upset.
