Sciatica anyone?

Holy OW! This didn't hit me until the end of 2nd tri last time, and now it's back with a vengeance. Anyone else have sciatica issues? What are you doing for them? I got monthly massages last time, but apparently that's not allowed until 2nd tri. Ugh! Help!

Re: Sciatica anyone?

  • I do and this actually happened to me with DS too. It lasted until about 16 weeks last time and then I was pretty good to go. Maybe a little bit here and there at the very end but it was by far the worst in the beginning!

  • It hit me really early last time and is about the same with this pregnancy as well. I did prenatal yoga. the instructor would ask what symptoms everyone was having at the beginning of class and then recommend poses or exercises to help.
  • I started with it early last time too. I went to the osteopath every two weeks in the beginning and then every month. She was a miracle worker. I have my first appointment scheduled for next week.
  • I thought I was having sciatica but it's on both sides...one side more than the other but I thought sciatica is usually only one side. My hips are also killing me!

  • This is my first pregnancy. But my back and hips are killing me already and I just hit 10 weeks today.
  • Oh shit!!! I'm so worried about this, I have a shitty back and can get sciatica to the point when I can loss control of my bathroom functions. I am saving all these replies as I know my time will come *welp*

  • I've been having sciatica pain since approx 7 weeks. In one butt cheek now it's a burning feeling going down my hip.

  • Add me to the list. I've been having it off and on since 7 weeks. My doctor told me today that there's not much you can do to help with it, but she did recommend stretching and yoga. It's driving me crazy already, so I hope it doesn't get too much worse!

  • Because it involves the spine and nerves, visiting a chiropractor is a good idea. Be sure to find somebody that is certified in prenatal and postnatal care.

^^^THIS! During my third trimester I took my students on a trip to a farm on a school bus. The bumps were no joke. I developed sciatica which would travel from one side to the other. My yoga instructor reminded me to move even when it was uncomfortable because remaining stationary makes it worse. The poses and exercises did help tremendously.
  • Thanks for all of the words of wisdom. I'll definitely try some yoga. I kinda just rested today, but will try to keep moving and stretching tomorrow.

@kayteebayb‌ thank you for starting this thread! Mine just flared up yesterday....I use to go to acupuncture, and it really helped, but I wasn't expecting then. I see my OB on Thursday, so I'll definitely be asking. I've also signed up for prenatal yoga.

  • Consider seeing a physical therapist with prenatal knowledge.
