Ultra Sound Uneasiness

I went to the doctor today for my 11 week check up. I ended up having an unexpected ultra sound there. They dated me 11 weeks and 2 days (before I was 11 weeks 0 days). Anyway, the guy that was doing my ultra sound said that my placenta is high. That it moves up during your pregnancy but at this stage it should be lower. He sounded concerned about it and said that they would have to keep an eye on it. Any one else has/had something like this? It worries me because I don't know what could cause this or if it could cause problems later on.

  • The doctor never mentioned it. I'm not sure if she knew about it. She was very busy. He scheduled me for another ultra sound in 2 months.

Then call her and ask. Tell her what the tech said, and make sure she knows that it was not appropriate for him to say ANYTHING to you, and ask her if it means anything.

  • I called the doctors office and they said that the doctor was busy. So I told the person my name and that I had just had an appointment there. I asked her if I would be considered high risk (figuring she really wouldn't know anything because shes a receptionist) she didn't know what I was talking about when I said high risk and then finally said if I was they would refer me to a specialist. So calling was a bust. I'll try to call back later when they arent as busy.

  • Don't call and ask questions of the receptionist. Call and leave a message for your doctor to call you back.

  • Thanks I will definitely call back and leave a message for her to call me back.

  • He had no place saying that. Wait until you talk to doc. I wouldn't worry at all.

  • I thought the placenta positioned high was a good thing?

I think anything other than sitting on/near the cervix (previa) was just fine.

Placenta acretta (where it grows INTO the uterus) is dangerous, but I don't think position plays a part in that either.
