TTC after 35

random FF testing day question

Since this was the first month of keeping track of temps, it was also the first month that FF gave me crosshairs and marked a "test date" for me. I'm kind of confused though. It said I should be testing 5 days AFTER it thinks AF is supposed to drop on by. Anyone have any idea as to why that is the case? Does anyone actually wait that long?!

Re: random FF testing day question

  • My last cycle was my first one temping too. I think (and I'm no expert) that until they have more than once cylce of temps recorded (i.e. until they can make an educated assessment of your usual luteal phase), they default to 18DPO as the test day. In my case, that would have also put me about 7 days late for AF.

Just to make sure I wasn't spreading misinformation, I did a wee search and found this explanation.

@flyliceandcoffee I was baffled too when I first noticed it last month -- I've never even had AF arrive nearly that late, so I almost wouldn't even need to test if she hadn't arrived by that time! I O'ed on cd19 last cycle and with only an 11-day luteal phase I had my disappointing answer well before the suggested test date.

  • @tmorash, yah FF pushed back my predicted AF start date as well which I figured was because it "expected" a normal 14 day luteal phase. I just didn't expect the test date to be so late since I don't know anyone who actually WAITS to test until after their cycle starts haha.

  • Yes, the default is 18dpo... if you have an idea of your typical luteal phase test the day before/day of af's expected arrival or if like me negatives don't upset your whole world then test 10dpo and on from there...
  • @flyliceandcoffee I hear ya! I didn't make it to 18dpo, that's for sure.

@kelley72 That's basically what I did -- tested at 10dpo and got a BFN, and then AF showed up before I even had a chance to test again.

  • this reminds me that I need to hit up the dollar store and get more tests for this month!
  • Yeah, I tested today at 15DPO (BFN) and should have waited to test 18DPO. I've had long cycles pop in to "disrupt the Matrix" from time to time and this is one of them. I keep reminding myself of the promise I made to be chill and wait.

  • Oh @verdongirl I'm trying so hard to chill out but it's all-consuming. It's distracting me on a daily (if not hourly?) basis -- brutal. I'm impressed you even  made it to 15DPO! I guess I'm just really skilled in the art of assuming the worst, which is totally unproductive. Must. Learn. to Relax.
