Has anyone had Rh negative complications?

Found out I am Rh negative at 9 week visit. The doctor says it's nothing to be worried about as long as it is addresses. Wondering if anyone has had any complications due to Rh negative blood?

Hi, I'm a stm, I introed a while ago but I've been mostly on my original bmb.

Rh- is not a concern as your doctor said, as long as it is managed. That being said, in my 1st pregnancy mine was not. The PA at my obgyn's office forgot to give me the rhogam shot at 28 weeks, at 30 weeks I asked why I had not gotten it and she panicked. My insurance required it be delivered via a specific pharmacy and I had to wait an additional week to get the shot and a few more days for my appointment. In most pregnancies this is not a problem. I had issues at birth of mixing of the blood with my rh+ baby and while no complications happened to me, my baby had a rough time and spent some time in the Nicu. She is completely fine now- as said, managed is not life threatening. And if your baby ends up with rh- blood like you, there are zero complications.

What you need to keep in mind, if you have ever had an abortion or a miscarriage you could have been sensitized, if any of these have happened you need to inform your doctor and have them do a simple blood test. If you have been sensitized they can monitor you to manage any complications (again, RARE) that could emerge.

I have a family history of rh- complications so I'm the exception to the rule. Just make sure to ask about the rhogam shot around 24/26 weeks so they can ensure they have it on hand to administer on time and remind them when you give birth that you need it then also, and you should be just fine!

Just be sure that if you have any spotting you call your doctor. I had a shot at 7 weeks due to spotting. The shot is good for 12 weeks. I will have to have another if I have any spotting in second trimester. Then again around 28 weeks and delivery.

Is this your first pregnancy? If so, you have nothing to worry about, especially as long as you get your Rhogam shot at 28 weeks. I am RH- and had issues due to bleeding. The OB gave me the Rhogam shot to prevent any antibodies from forming, even though the chances of that are extremely slim. If you have any bleeding, make sure to tell your OB just to be safe.

The policy at my doctor's office (and I assume yours as well) is that if they see a mother is RH- they go ahead and check to see if you have formed any antibodies that could pose a problem. If your OB wasn't concerned, I assume they already knew you hadn't become sensitized yet, but it never hurts to ask!

My Grandma and Great-Grandma are both RH- and had 3 healthy pregnancies each with no miscarriages. And my Great-Grandma delivered before the shot was discovered! So don't worry too much. I understand how scary it may sound but chances are that everything will be fine.

As pp poster mentioned, if having any spotting including brown, let your OB know so you can get your Rhogam within 72hrs of bleeding.

Thanks for the information. It is my first pregnancy and no bleeding so far. Everything is great, but of course when you have one small thing to worry about, that's where you mind wanders! You're response put my mind at ease! Thanks again

I had some light spotting yesterday and had to go down for a reassurance scan today and a big injection of Anti-D because I'm rhesus negative and my hubby is positive but everything is a-ok! But just to make sure if u have any spotting to get one immediately

I'm RH negative as well. I was told I wouldn't be getting the shot until after 20 weeks. When was everyone told they'll receive their shot? I'm actually at the doctors office now so I'll bring it up as one of my questions.

@kjones115‌ my doctor told me I won't need one until after the baby is born and even then I might not need it if the baby is the same blood type as me. This is my first baby though so maybe that's why?

@Babog it's my first baby too so I'm learning as I go. My doctor said I'll get the shot at 28 weeks. I picked up a little pamphlet on it but haven't read it yet. The doctor seemed very unworried about it so I won't worry either. I guess it'd pretty common. I already feel like a pincushion so what's another shot haha?
