DD didn't grow much since her 6 month app.

My DD had her 9 month appointment yesterday. At 6 months she was 17 lbs and 26.5 inches long. Yesterday she was 18 lbs and 27 inches long. Her pedi isn't concern about the weight gain since she is so active now. However, she is concerned with her height. I need to take DD back in in 6 weeks to have her height checked again. I think that DD has grown taller because she has outgrown lots of clothes in the past 3 months. She is now in 9-12 month pants and 6-9 month onesies. I am wondering if the measurement was off because DD was crying and maybe her head wasn't straight. Although, they measured her 3 times.

Does anyone else have babies that haven't grown as much as expected? Any advice? I breastfed about every 3 hours during the day and just switched to 1 time during the night (was at 2-3 times), plus I give DD food 2 times per day. Although, this would only affect her weight and probably not her height.

I am guessing she just may be behind a bit on her growth spurt. That happened to DD too at her first couple appointments. She just grew later than the typical baby.

FWIW, I have been disappointed with how lazy my pedi nurse is when measuring height. So I do it myself. He had two appts close to each other, and according to their records, he shrank 1/2" -- yeah, no. That didn't happen. It was different nurses measuring him.

Why didn't they try remeasuring her at the office yesterday? Seems strange that if it didn't sound right, why not do it again. At our pedi's office, they've had to re-measure her head circ and height twice nearly every time because the doctor was like "Those measurements don't add up, lets do it again." Usually when he did it a second time, the numbers jived better. I'd also say that if your DD is in 9-12mo pants, then she's taller than 27 inches. My baby is in 6-9 pants and she's almost 28 inches.

They measured her 3 times plus I measured her at home. However, she has torticollis, so her head is often tilted a bit. It was always around 27 inches. I am glad that other babies have had growth spurts later on. I think maybe last time the measurement was off or she is waiting to grow a ton!

They could have been off at the previous appt, we've had trouble with accurate heights many times. Once we took dd to her specialist and her pedi in the same day and they were an inch off from each other. Not cool when you need an accurate bmi!

I was going to say that maybe they messed up at the 6 month due to a wiggly baby or whatever. I think if doc says don't worry- try to follow that. My guess, she is having you come back to take new measurements just to see that she is growing proving that one of the measurements were off (either the 6 or 9 month ones).

We were 97 percentile for height until this last checkup where we dropped to 88. My ped wasn't concerned. I think you might just ask how significant an issue it is.

Thanks everyone! I feel like measuring a baby isn't an exact science. It is hard to get them straight! Each of the 3 measurements were a little off from each other. I am also thinking that maybe the 6 month measurement was off. I guess I was just worried since the doctor seemed to be a bit concerned. Hopefully she grows in the next 6 weeks! I have a hard time believing she isn't growing because she eats so much! I don't know what would cause her not to grow besides being malnourished, which she definitely isn't. I will check with her doctor in 6 weeks.

My older two children were both dxed failure to thrive as babies, so I learned a little bit about baby growth during their infancies. If a baby is not getting enough to eat, it show in their weight gain first and your little one is still gaining. The 2nd thing it will show in is their height , and out growing clothing is a pretty good judgement of if they are increasing in length because the measurements at the doctors are definitely not very good (thanks to carelessness combined with wiggleworms!). The 3rd thing to stop growing when baby isn't getting enough is the head. It sounds like your LO is doing fine; she is outgrowing clothing and still gaining weight.
