If you put LO down for a nap at the same time(s) everyday, your answer is yes.
If you do not put LO down at the same time(s) everyday, your answer is no.
There is no SS.

She naps around the same times everyday, but it varies based on  when she wakes up and what other things we have going on that day. And some days she just refuses.
Babies are so silly sometimes. I'd kill to be expected to name everyday. Multiple times a day, even.

  • We follow intervals, and they work pretty well. About two hours after he wakes up, he goes back down. About three hours after he wakes up from that nap he goes back down. About four hours after he wakes up from that nap, he goes down for the night.

Okay, so I'd love for this to happen at my house. And his first nap is usually 1.5-2.5 hours after wake up. But it's nowhere near long enough for the 2-3-4 to happen. It's over in 40 minutes. Sometimes he's ready for a second nap by 11:30, which is also a shortie.

I know JBBB and different babies will do different stuff.

My question is: if it's been 2 hours since LO woke up, do you put him down even if he doesn't seem to be giving any sleep cues? Or do you wait for his sleep cues?

  • At daycare yes, pretty much the same every day. At home it's all over the place. If we're staying home in the morning, she usually wakes around 7 is and then wants to fall back asleep after she eats for another hour or more. The rest of the naps are no where near a specific time. Sometimes they don't even happen at all. Not my choice, she's a fighter!

I said yes, BUT it is not exactly at the same time every day. It is more like... usually around 9 and usually around 1. But it is pretty variable. So maybe I should have said no? LOL.

Same for us, and I answered yes. Our daycare provider put both kids on a schedule and I stick to it on weekends because I like knowing what to expect and I think the kids do, too. So DS sleeps 9-10 and 1-3, approximately, most days. If he sleeps later in the morning I'll wait a little bit to put him down for the first nap. Eta: I will also wake him from naps at about an hour for the first nap and about two hours for the second nap. Otherwise he might sleep 2 hours in the morning and then not be tired enough in the afternoon, and then he'd be a nightmare by bedtime.

I know you weren't asking me, but yes, I put my son down even with no sleep cues at 9 am and 1 pm :)

  • LO naps generally every two hours. until about 4. and then he stays awake until bedtime. but he pretty much does what he wants these past two weeks.

  • Pretty much exactly what @sdlaura‌ said down to the times, but change 9 to 9:30. While I was off track for 3 weeks from school, I worked on getting her on a schedule because it is what works for our family. If what you are doing now is working, though, then you are doing fine! If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

  • Is this poll because of me? No schedules here. :-??

No, it's actually something I've been wondering about for awhile. I would love more consistent nap times, but I think both LO and I would get frustrated if he's not really ready to sleep yet.

  • We don't have a schedule by any means, except that I aim for a morning nap (about 1-2 hours after she wakes up) and an afternoon nap that ends before 4pm.

Take all this with a grain of salt, considering I have a terrible sleeper in general. But I follow her cues and try and get her down if she's showing signs of tiredness. Weekends she sleeps more often and for longer than daycare days. Daycare days she sometimes only gets one 20 minute nap in!

As I type this, she is babbling in her swing fighting her morning nap. So obviously we don't have a tried and true approach. ;-)

  • LO tends to follow the 2-3-4 schedule on his own. I don't put him down unless he shows signs of being tired though.
  • @shellbell3845‌ - sorry took so long to respond. But yes, we started doing it without sleep cues just because babies "usually" follow those intervals. If a nap is short, like less than an hour, we'll cut the interval by half an hour. But getting him to a quiet place so he can get ready for nap helps and then we put him down with his Wub. Sometimes he needs boob help or car-ride help, but more often than not, he's ready after the 2/3/4.

  • I voted yes, but it's not like exactly the same time but within an hour-ish. It varies based on when we get up in the am, how long naps are, if we've got errands/activities, etc.  But generally she naps around 9am and around 1pm

  • No specific times but LO always takes a morning and afternoon nap. They can range anywhere from 30 min to 2 hours.

  • G usually takes a morning, afternoon and early evening nap. There are no set times & they can be 15min - 45 mins.
  • No, but we're getting closer.

We're in a weird situation because we have a 45 min drive in the morning, so she goes back to sleep somewhere in the first hour of being up during the ride. Then she's usually good from about 745 to 10 or 1030, when she has her morning bottle and takes some kind of nap... anywhere from 45 min to 2 hours. Afternoons are a mess, sometimes she falls asleep eating lunch so takes two shorter naps, sometimes she gets in one good one around 230 for about an hour. Then she snoozes a bit on the car ride home from 5-6, and goes down for the night around 8:30.

She's a pretty good night sleeper so I'm not too concerned about the nap mess, since she's not overtired cranky most nights and falls asleep easily. But there are days when I wish she'd just string together a decent chunk of sleep so I could get something done around the house! ;-)

  • We are working towards a schedule w a 9am and a 1pm nap time. C is such a light sleeper that it's harder for him at school.
I hope to create a real siggy but first I need some sleep!

  • We don't really have set times. On daycare days, I wake her up before 7, and she usually naps shortly after we get to daycare, and again in the afternoon. Lots of times, she will take a short nap in the early evening (6pm-ish), but I only let her sleep around 30 min. then bed at 9ish (depending on bottles, which are basically every 3 hours)

Non daycare days, we let her sleep until she's ready to be up (usually around 8). Then, she'll nap around 9 or 9:30 for a random length of time, and again around 12:30 for a random length of time. Sometimes she'll take a third nap, it all depends on how the day went. Then she'll be ready for bed around 8 or 9.

We don't stick with 'naptimes' as much as we try to stick with every 3 hours for bottles (depending on her hunger cues). Then, sometime between bottles (earlier in the morning), she will have sleepy cues, so we get her to nap then.

It works for us, especially since our days are nowhere near being on a schedule.

Basically this. Except 10 and 2. Ish. If he is really tired/fussy he might go down earlier. But I do my best to make sure it's no later. So if he isn't showing at tired cues bumpy say 2-2:15, even if he's happily playing quietly, we go into boring mode. Dark, quiet, etc. but full disclosure, I nurse to sleep which works like a charm. Second dirty secret is that 80% of the time I lay down with LO at 2 and have have my own nap, or quiet reading time.

  • I started a while ago trying to have more set nap times in hopes she would sleep better at night. She still wakes up 3-4 times a night but is napping so much better. Usually nap times are 10 am (1.5-2 hour nap) and 2:30-3 pm (1 hour nap). I watch to see when she is getting cranky and adjust.

Also on days like today we have play group at 10 am so I move her nap up to 9 am and go whenever she wakes up. This usually bumps her afternoon nap up to 1 ish.
  • I have an SS LO - she doesn't nap in the day at all :( She falls asleep on the boob, I remove the nip, the eyes ping open and that's the end of nap time! If I take boob away before she falls asleep she has a fall blown meltdown and no nap. Either way we get no nap!
  • Naps are still a crap shoot here but she is consistently down for the night at 8 and up at 6:30 or 7 am, with one occasional wake ing for a bottle at 4 am (most of the time not though)

+1....I would still like a nap in the day though :)
