I just went in for my 7th month appointment and described some symptoms/slight pain I've been feeling in my lower abdomen/groin to my OB. He thinks I've developed a hernia and was very nonchalant about it. I've been active my entire pregnancy and actually teach GX classes, and he didn't even say that I needed to reduce my activity level. Is he just trying not to worry me...?
Has anyone else had a hernia during pregnancy before? If so, how did you deliver? My preference was to deliver naturally and hopefully med-free, but I'm not sure how the hernia will impact that...
Thanks in advance!
Re: Hernia?!
Your doctor probably didn't go into detail about the hernia because there is nothing you can do about it at the moment. If you feel pain when doing certain things, you should avoid those things. Hernias are not uncommon in pregnancy and they usually don't interfere with natural birth. If it is not severe, most doctors won't treat a hernia until you are done having children anyway because they can come back during another pregnancy. My husband had one from heavy lifting at work. The doctors just kind told him to wait and see if it got worse and caused problems when he first got it. Two years later it did start to cause problems and he had surgery. He stayed one night in the hospital and was home the next day. He was walking around and feeling pretty good a week later, but he took a few months off work though because his job is very strenuous. Good luck!
Good luck with everything!
