On September 22 I gave birth to Isla June, 2 weeks early. My labor was long - 25 hours! It was way different than what I thought and despite plans for all natural, I wound up with a spinal tap and epidural. My contractions began at 2:30am after coming home from a friend's wedding. We were up in the mountains 2 hrs from home. I woke DH up and told him I was sure I was in labor. He said ok and fell back asleep! I woke him up again and then he freaked and apologized bc he drank too much at the wedding and couldn't drive. I had a mini panic session about giving birth in the mountains and then decided I would drive us the 2 hours home - with contractions 5-7 mins apart. Once we got home I called labor & delivery and they said to call back when they were 3-5 mins apart. Around 3pm, 12 hrs after I started contractions, we decided to just go to L&D to get checked. I was 5 cm and got admitted. I stayed at 5 for a long time despite walking and using the birthing ball. At 11 they broke my water and in a matter if 20 mins I went from a 5 to a 9! I also went from discomfort to mind blowing pain. I got a spinal tap and then 2 hrs later an epidural. About an hour before she arrived I was also given pitocin. My husband was amazing the entire delivery, even when I yelled at him to shut up at one point when he was telling me he could see my contractions starting on the monitor, I was well aware! At 3:31 am, I was finally able to push her all the way out after 3 hrs of pushing. Joy and overwhelming love were immediate. Below is the sneak peak from our birth story photographer and then a link to the actual blog with the birth story.
If you haven't given birth yet, I can't recommend a photographer enough. We are so happy we hired one. It wasn't intrusive and I hardly noticed her.
