When did you feel kicking? Movement?

I'm a FTM and my 20 week U/S is a week away!  I'm really excited! I'll be glad to know if we're having a boy or a girl so I can complete my registry but mostly I'll be glad for the piece of mind of just seeing the baby again.  I'm feeling nervous because I haven't really felt any notable kicking or moving yet.  Sometimes I think maybe I feel something but, to be honest, between the gas and constipation, I'm not sure I would know the difference between baby movement and digestive movement.  I mentioned this to the Doc at our last visit and she assured me that I would know the difference.....still waiting...

Re: When did you feel kicking? Movement?

  • You know the difference with real kicks but most movement feels very much like had. You could have felt movement already and mistaken it for gas because it can just feel like pressure sometimes. Some mom's don't feel movement until 24+ weeks but if you have an anterior placenta it can take longer. You aren't alone though. There are many women on this board who haven't felt anything yet.

  • I'm also a FTM- I started feeling flutters around 20 weeks and now I'm 22 weeks and it's more consistent, stronger and in cycles (morning and late at night). My husband hasn't been able to feel it from the outside yet- can't wait for that! Hope this helps!
  • Some ladies feel the baby super early, but I'm not one of them. I usually don't feel anything until after 20 weeks.  I can vouch that you will know the difference though! It's fun to finally feel them. I can't wait to feel this little guy.

  • I'm just shy of 21 weeks and I've been feeling little movements for a while, they are just lately starting to get a little stronger for me. I honestly couldn't tell you when I started feeling them, since it had been a while before I really noticed, if that makes sense? A couple weeks maybe. But this is my second pregnancy and they say you feel them sooner in subsequent pregnancies than you do with your first.
  • I felt random flutters quite early....around 14wks. Something for sure changed this week and I felt noticeable kicks startong Wed. night.

  • You'll feel it soon! No worries! This is my 4th and I felt our baby boy early. Last week (19) he starting kicking harder, the movements that I can feel are mostly early in the morning & especially at night.
Rest assured you will feel those kicks soon enough and there will be no mistaking them!
  • I was in this same mind set with worry because I hadn't felt her. Then this week-- bam. Lots of flutters and even a kick here and there.

I know it sucks to say but, it will happen when it happens.

  • I've been feeling definite kicks and rolling around since 16 weeks. I'm a FTM so I wasn't expecting to feel anything so early. I'm 21 weeks now and feel hard consistent movement that is easily seen and felt from the outside. So many moms I have spoken with said they didn't really feel anything until after 20 weeks. So much is dependent on your size and where the placenta is. I'm sure he or she will be kicking you in the bladder soon enough haha!
  • Yesterday after the a/s, she kept using my cervix as a trampoline! Then, later in the night, she decided she was going to start using my bladder as the trampoline. Today, she's moved onto lashing out at my ovaries for all the poking, pushing, and prodding yesterday. Yep, she's definitely my kid......

  • I'm 20 weeks and I started feeling movements around 17-18 weeks. It literally felt like gas in my uterus haha. One way I'm able to feel the difference between kicks and gas is trying to place where I feel the moving. I feel gas deeper into my abdomen and I feel kicks right up front where my uterus is. And when the baby kicks me right in my vagina
  • just started feeling them for real now, like the last 2 days :) I thought with this being #4, I would feel more sooner since I felt at 16 weeks with my others, but my anterior placenta is getting in the way!

  • I started feeling mine at 15 weeks but this is baby 4. Real consistent at 18 weeks and now at 22 weeks it can be seen and felt from the outside and she has a definite sleep/ wake schedule that I can predict.
  • I've not felt anything yet either...my a/s is on Wednesday and I'm super nervous!
  • I could feel the pressure of baby @ 9 weeks. @ 11 weeks I could feel the pressure of baby moving,@ 18 weeks I could tell the difference in baby kicks/punches and gas, but it doesnt feel like flutters to me more like light thumps.now @20.1 weeks Movement still isn't felt from the outside of me for the father to feel yet but I guess in due time.
  • I am 20 weeks 2days and cannot definitively say that I have felt movement. We had our 20 week ultrasound and baby Bailey is doing awesome but being my second baby I thought I'd feel/notice movement by now. Feeling your baby move is so reassuring I am ready to feel those little wiggle. :0)
  • Thanks, everybody. I feel a lot better after your posts. After what some of you have described I do think what I'm feeling may be baby movement after all. Especially because it's gotten more persistent in just the last 3 days. Someone mentioned that the baby movement is felt more to the front of the belly while the digestive movement feels more to the back. I'm feeling a lot going on to the front. It makes sense when I look at myself from the side view. I think maybe it's been confusing to distinguish because I have had really delayed onset of the belly. In the last 2 weeks, however, it's been ballooning exponentially. It's like Go-Go-Baby-Belly! Thank you to everyone that shared. For those of you in the same boat as me I hope you saw some comments that helped.
  • FTM felt kicks at 18 weeks now I really feel them. Drinking orange juice brings on kicks in the morning. It's so crazy to feel and makes me giggle. I love the little kicks! <3
  • With this one it was early like 16 weeks I can feel her on the outside already way stronger than my first I am 20 weeks now. I think I barely felt my first around 20 weeks but I wasn't so sure then either but you will definitely know when you do! Try sitting quietly and just putting your hand there for a while sometimes a long while and maybe you'll feel the baby even roll if not kick. Hope you feel it soon it's amazing!
  • With number one I felt kicks around 16-17 weeks - posterior placenta.  DD2 I didn't feel real movement until 22 weeks and she never really did things I could distinguish easily - anterior placenta.  Baby number three I started feeling probably around 18 weeks and this is another anterior placenta, however higher in the uterus than DD2s.
  • Thanks, Ladies! A few days after I posted this I was sitting on the couch and I felt one very distinct solid kick. About 3 days after that this kid was doing dance dance revolution in my tummy all night and it was so strong and repetitive that my husband was able to feel it. So, it took my to the 20th week to be certain but finally!
  • I'm a FTM, I'm 24 weeks and I felt my firsts movement at 17weeks but the doc said that LO is attached low and way up front. She said "good thing about babies position, you can feel kick and movement, bad thing about babies position, you can feel every kick and movement." Lol now that he is getting stronger I can see what she meant:)
  • Did you even read the responses!?!?!?!?!?
I did. However, this questions is about not feeling any kicking. The answers are about how kicking begins at different times for us all.

My new question was about how much variation people may feel in kicking on any given day.

Did you even read my questions??? ;-)
  • I was exactly 23 weeks when I first felt those very soft thuds (only way I can describe them) that I definitely knew weren't gas. I also have an anterior placenta. I'm 26 weeks today and just this past week I've noticed them getting stronger and can actually feel them at times other than laying down. Hang in there mamma! You'll feel them soon!
  • I was about 23 weeks, but i had an anterior placenta. With that being said, i still dont feel constant movement every day - and i am almost 28 weeks :(
