Would you take LO to the Pediatrician?

DD's sleep has been generally crappy for several weeks and now we are in one of those Leaps so night wakings are normal around here.

But last night she would wake within 15-30 minutes of being set in her crib. All.night.long. I could get her to sleep for an hour at a time in her RNP but she is a big girl and I hate putting her in there. And she will sleep on me for as long as I let her. But then I am not sleeping.

Anyway the other day the Ped said she had just a small amount of fluid in her ear so I am wondering if this may be an ear infection. But she was fine yesterday and has no fever or stuffiness or any other reason to believe that may be it. I guess I am just hoping for a medical reason for this so they can make it go away and I can get some sleep!

So would you take her to the Ped or do you think that would be a wasted trip?

Re: Would you take LO to the Pediatrician?

  • Give them a call and ask if you could speak to a nurse, at the very least. I'm sure she/he could give you a better idea. Hope your LO (and you!) feel better soon!

  • You could also try to lay her on a warm wet towel in the meantime to draw some of that out and get immediate relief if that's the issue.
  • I would definitely call them and ask if they think she should be seen. Better safe than sorry! I hope she feels better soon and I hope you can get some sleep!!

  • Eh, I probably wouldn't call. There are nights/periods of sleep like that, not abnormal, imo.

I ended up not calling.  I think you are right.  She got a decent stretch of sleep from about 5:30-7:00 in her crib and woke up happy as a clam.  In my sleepless stupor I was sitting there sort of wishing for a medical reason for this torture so we could go back to sleeping.  I am at work today and dying of exhaustion.

  • My lo was fussy and didn't sleep well and I took her in to find a double ear infection! No other symptoms. I'm glad I went.

  • Whenever we get screaming when lying flat but not when held upright, it's been yucky ear infections each time.

I called about this exact thing a few days ago and the nurse acted like I knew nothing. Granted she probably has the same conversation all day it gave me piece of mind. Just for fun our conversation went like this,

    "Is he drooling a lot"
"Well yeah but he always drools"

    "Pooping regular?"
    "Yeah but he always does"

    "Is he chewing on everything?"
"Yeah but that's what all babies do.."

    "Sleeping ok?"
"Well idk he always sleeps absolutely awful"

"My guess is teeth keep your appt for next week"
    "Ok then thanks"

This has been my experience too. I would have brought her in.

  • If I'm worried, I always call. I've never regretted doing it. And even if they don't tell me anything I didn't already guess, it does seem to give me peace of mind.
