June 2014 Moms

**Born to Run Junebugs**

This is a weekly thread for runners who were due June 2014, that is posted on Mondays . All who run--or who want to start running--are welcome, regardless of mileage, pace, ability, size, shape, or terrestrial status. We had this thread during pregnancy, now it's time to lose that baby weight.

how were your runs and workouts this week?

notice any major changes since having baby? weird pains?

Start a goal for the month of October - # miles? # of runs? pace? Whatever works for you. Let's hold ourselves accountable to reach our goals! We'll tally up accomplishments at the end of the month. Good luck!

  • how were your runs and workouts this week?  I got 1 run in on the treadmill and a walk outside with LO. I am noticing a difference on my walks though. My neighborhood is quite hilly and I'm not breathing nearly as heavy as I was a couple months ago. Aiming for 2 runs on the treadmill this week, and a walk with LO.

notice any major changes since having baby? weird pains? Still having calf issues. boobs are still huge too so they are sore afterwards, so are my shoulders from the bouncing:)

I'm going to set a goal of 30 miles for the month. Which means I need to get in at least 3 workouts a week. I think 30 is a good goal for me. I have to travel for work this month too:( but that means I can get in some long runs in the mornings before my meeting starts! YAY!

  • Hey Ladies! I just joined the exclusive pumping thread and introduced myself there but I would love to join you guys over here too! I've been lurking for a long time, just too nervous to jump in after such a long time but I figure what the heck. You guys are awesome and very motivational. I also love running and I'm so glad that you guys have put this group together for inspiration!
  • My runs: not a great week for running. We ran 3 times. Saturday night we ran a 5k (DH pushes the stroller), which for turned around and ended up being a 4 miler!
Still feeling fine, just feel soooo out of shape!
My goal is just to run like 3-4 times per week, it's hard to make real goals anymore!
  • how were your runs and workouts this week? Pretty good, picking up some mileage and gaining a little speed back. I was able to run 5 times and do one strength workout

notice any major changes since having baby? weird pains? I have pelvic pain the day after a run.

Just to keep running consistently. I'll start training for a half marathon next month. Also, still working on losing the rest of the baby weight.
  • how were your runs and workouts this week?  I had a great week last week! I ran 3x (13 mi total) and did strength training 2x. Getting up before work to work out is getting a little easier, but with LO's ever changing sleep schedule, it's not quite predictable yet.

notice any major changes since having baby? weird pains? Nothing major.

We'll tally up accomplishments at the end of the month. Good luck! I actually already started a 30-day plank challenge on 10/1. Here is the link if anyone wants to join in with me: https://30dayfitnesschallenges.com/30-day-plank-challenge/

  • @babygabe614 I accept your plank challenge! LOL! Count me in! And I'm going to do the squat challenge as well with @mrstgp . I sit at a desk all day long! Surely I can do some planking and squatting in between emails!

We'll have to do a group challenge for November:) I'll start looking around for something!

  • how were your runs and workouts this week?
I didn't get to run this week because of the weather. I did the elliptical instead. I also tried Baby and Me Yoga and Stroller Strides. The yoga wasn't much of a workout, but Stroller Strides was great.

Just sore from not using my muscles for so long!

Start a goal for the month of October - # miles? # of runs? pace? My goals for the month are to run at least once per week and take at least one Stroller Stride class each week. Also, I want to improve my pace by 45 seconds.
  • @nicolewhelan You rock! I totally do my planks in my cubicle every day... I have only been caught a few times. I usually try to play it off like I dropped my pen... :P

I just got back in last week.  I have been trying to get back to running but stuff kept coming up.  I did an interval 2 mile run/walk yesterday as part of the warm up week on my couch to 5K.  I also started doing 30 minute strength workouts on my NTC app.  Those hurt a whole bunch but after three of them I am finally starting to feel it get easier.

Anyone else struggling to get back to it?  I knew it would be hard but did not anticipated it would be this hard.

The only thing that seems different is I just wear out so much faster than before.

I am doing a couch to 5k program.  I am shooting for a nice easy turkey trot before thanksgiving.  The program has me running 30 miles by the end of the month.  Please hold me accountable.  :)

I can get behind the plank challenge.  I will start today.

I dont have anything yet but now that dh is home for a good chunk of time I'm starting the couch to 5k program this weekend. I didn't want to start and stop since he has been gone big chunks the last few months. I signed up for a 5k in Nov but that will be a walk since I'll be pushing ds and wearing dd. Also starting the 30 day squat challenge I just found.
Kind of intimidated by this running stuff but I'm excited too. I'd like to be doing a half by April and a full by this time next year

These are great goals! When I started running I was super intimidated, not only by running itself but by all those runner types. I remember thinking I could never do a 5K but your body adapts pretty quickly and over the past 4 years I've done 4 marathons. You'll do great!
  • @scrouch7 I am struggling as well to get back in it don't worry. I knew my schedule would change, I guess I just imagined it being different in my head. DH doesn't get home from work til 10pm so getting out isn't easy, and on the weekends I just want to relax. I love it though, don't get me wrong, I'm just sick of this belly fat!  I was supposed to run today before I left work (we have a mini gym at work) but got pulled into a meeting at 4:15...ugh!! I'll try again tomorrow I guess.

keep working toward your goal, you'll get there! I need to put another race on my schedule, that usually helps motivate me more.

  • @nicolewhelan I am the same way in that I need a tangible goal to stay motivated. Once I got my first few long runs in, I knew I could confidently sign up for my next half marathon, so I did (it's on November 8th). It makes those godawful early mornings a little easier when I know I am working toward something.

Do any of you ladies run with a running club, or have workout partners or anything like that? I am part of a running club and I'm also one of the run leaders (so I organize and lead/pace group runs on weekends) and I have to say, that having my group is such a huge motivator. I can't hit snooze on Saturday morning when I know there are people waiting on me. Just a thought in case anyone is looking for ways to stay accountable! It's easy to find a local running group through Meetup or the RRCA website.

  • We have running clubs here in Atlanta but I've never joined one. I never do good running with people. I always gas myself out because I'm slow and try to keep up. I want to join one though. I do crossfit and that is my workout family usually. I have to get back in there!! I miss it so bad. Midwife said I have diastasis recti (separation of abs from pregnancy) so I'm a little afraid for some reason. I have no idea why, but I need to work on my core bad or else I will always struggle.

I like having this 'running group' for now and eventually I'll migrate to an outdoor club:) LOL!

  • Thanks @Mease8! I do love being one of the leaders, and in fact two of us were pregnant at the same time and lead the group runs late into our pregnancies which was pretty cool. I am always so inspired by the women in my group - one of the ladies I run with is 45 and trained for her first full marathon with me last year (it was my first, too). Not only did she finish but she blew her time goals totally out of the water.

  • @nicolewhelan‌ - Yes. Exactly. I just joined a gym with a great child center. That is helping.

Did 2 miles and a half hour of strength today.

I have never ran with a running club. Heard good things. I know they have a board at my gym for sign up.
