so can the flu shot potentially help protect the LO

From getting the flu? I mean it's definitely Not news, I plan to get mine. But can it help protect LO from getting any strain that is protected my the flu shot? Especially with this whole ebola thing. I know there is no shot for it but it's got me all paranoid.

  • Yeah I guess that's the obvious answer but I just had to ask before I assumed. Thanks!

  • Pretty sure if you're nursing you'd also pass antibodies on to baby as well.

  • Does the flu shot help at all with the enterovirus thing? I don't know much about it. Is it related to the flu or completely different?

Nope. The flu virus is the flu virus and the enterovirus is the enterovirus. Even still, an enterovirus vaccine would have to include the particular strain that's causing all those issues.

So if I get the flu shot and breastfeed is it still worth my LO getting it too? If they have to do 2 small doses he won't have the second until January, but I can get mine at a pharmacy in early November.

  • I get the flu shot every year. At LOs 4mo check up the pedi said she may need to get it at her 6mo appt.
  • I recommend getting the flu shot for your LO as well, but it's obviously a personal choice. DD1 got influenza A at 4 months old because she was too young for the flu shot, and it was absolutely awful, she almost had to be admitted to the hospital. I had to feed her with a syringe and she could barely eat. I will do everything I can to avoid that again!

  • Wow that terrifying and so sad. I would hate to see my little baby go through that. I have never gotten the flu shot before but now that I have a kid I will be getting it. And I'm hoping the pedi will just flat out ask if we want it but of not I will ask him myself.
