NBR - High School Reunion

edited October 2014 in August 2014 Moms
My high school reunion is next week and it's got me wondering how many of you went to or are planning to go to your reunion. I'm not going because I live in a different state, have a newborn, but mostly because I keep in contact with the people I want to keep in contact with (ya know, phones, social media...).

Re: NBR - High School Reunion

  • Mine was August 16th, and DS was born the 12th soo I knew I wouldn't make it. But honestly I don't think I would have gone either way. Like you I've kept in touch w the friends I wanted to and the rest were too much drama

  • Hard to answer but I said that I haven't had it yet and I won't go... because I'm leaning that way.  We were supposed to have a 10 year reunion last year, but it never happened.  I was up in the air then, and I still am now.  I have a feeling we'll never have one though and even if we did, I probably wouldn't go.  I graduated with a lot of shitty people.

  • I would've gone if it were convenient but I live out of state (cross-country, actually) and it wasn't a convenient weekend to go visit my parents. Oh well. I'm much more bummed to be missing my college reunion but have a newborn, am also out of state, and just traveled there for my best friend from college's wedding. I just can't justify two trips in less than a month. Too expensive, too much hassle, etc.
  • SS: I went to my 10 year but not to my 5 year.. 15 year will be in 2 years and I probably won't go.
  • My reunion is this weekend and I've totally used LO as my excuse not to go, although I had no desire anyway. I see and talk to everyone I care about.
  • Was out of state, didnt go. Like you- I keep in contact with who matters.
  • I went. Mine was at the end of June and I was super pregnant. I'm grew up in a small town and only had 13 in my graduating class. Including myself, only 3 showed up. But they have all the years together for a banquet, so it isn't like we were the only ones there. Just from my representing class. It was ok. I haven't decided of I'll go to my 20. My sister and I are 5 years apart, so it would be her 25 and my 20. We could always sit together. :)

  • My 10 year reunion was 5 years ago. I helped plan it and we had a great time.

  • Mine was 2 years ago. I didn't go, but kind of wish I had.

  • I didn't go to my 5 year but I may go to my 10 year this year. It depends on where it is and how much it cost.

  • I went to the 5 year, but it seemed stupid- like not enough time had passed. So I skipped my 10yr because again, it had only been 5 years since the reunion. I don't think the 10 was well attended

  • Mine was 5 days pp at a local brewery in my hometown. No way I was going with DD so new and at home.
  • My class president sucked. She told people she had a big plan for our five year and then didn't put anything together or let the people who wanted to organize it know anything, so we didn't have one. I will go to my 10 year. I married my HS sweetheart, but there are a lot of people who have talked sh*t about us, so I like to go and rub it in their faces that we are still together and doing well.

  • @navyandgray‌ In elementary school and most of the classes in 7-10th grade everyone did together. There were a few like band/choir that everyone could choose, so you probably weren't with your class then during Jr. High and High school. Also, options like language/shop were a choice in high school. But for the core classes, math, science, English, History were all together until Junior year. Then there were options that the Juniors and Seniors took together (Chemistry, Physics, Psychology, some math classes). In my Senior year, they offered AP math and English. As far as advanced kids, they just stayed in the current grade. Honestly, I don't know if we had that many. Our school used to have a Special Ed program, but for some reason they stopped. I was pretty young, so I don't know why.

My hometown only has like 300 people, and there were even smaller towns that didn't have a school so those kids came to our school. I can't imagine having 100+ kids in a class. I pretty much grew up with my classmates.

Wowza, that got long. Hope that answers your questions!

  • No way I'd risk running into my ex husband. Reunions are definitely not happening for me.

  • Mine should be this coming year... but I haven't heard anything yet.  I will definitely go, because I haven't kept in contact with anyone and would really like to know how everyone else is doing.

We need a special snowflake option, Lol! I plan on going to my next one. It will probably be 2020 for my 20 year. I had ever intention of going to my 10 year, a few years back, but I brook my foot the week before at my cousins wedding. So I couldn't make the drive back.

  • Depends which reunion... I skipped the 5 year, very briefly attended the 10 year, and would certainly consider going in the future.

DH and I went to the same school but different graduation years, and we recently attended his 20th, which was a fun time span.

  • Im going to say special snowflake for this one. I didnt go to my 10 year and had no regrets. I went to a very small school and wasnt realy interested in reconnecting with people at that time...this was before the FB revolution. My 20 yr is next year, Im more interested in going to that one. We'll see....

  • DHs 20 year is next year and I kinda want to go.
What other random social events do we have coming up anytime soon? Nothing.

  • Is it bad that I get more excited to go to DH's reunion than my own? We didn't go to the same school, but I pretty much grew up with his whole class and we've stayed good friends with most of them. And because he graduated in a class of only 17, including him, we pretty much have a reunion every year, Lol.

  • I sooooo would have gone. It happened to fall on the same weekend as my beloved older brother's 30th birthday party. My parents booked the most amazing house in Napa Valley and planned an entire weekend of boozing it up at wine tastings and eating at 5 star restaurants. It was a no-brainer, but I totally would have gone, and taken my hot-ass husband, and let everyone who was awful to me gaze upon his hotness.

  • My 10 year happened when I lived across the country, so I didn't go.

Personally I kind of feel like social media has killed the reunion, it's just so easy to keep in touch with who you want to.

That being said, I might go to my 20 year, if they have it.

Yup, that's exactly why I was curious to see if people were still attending them.

  • Next year will be 10 years for me. In the social media age, anyone I care to stay in contact with, I do. Unless a lot of people going are people that I would actually want to have a conversation with, I won't go. Usually in our area it is at someone's camp, and they do a family cookout type thing, and an adults party in the evening either at the camp or in a pit. (Gravel pits are plentiful here, and a pit party is the best way to create some high school nostalgia)
  • Our class didn't end up having one. Some people trying to organize it on Facebook but so many people moved away to get jobs that nothing ended up happening.

We did go to my husbands and I had a blast and got totally wasted. I danced a lot and became quick friends with the popular girls. Believe me I was not the popular girl at my high school...I was a total band and choir geek. Something about not knowing anyone and not being likely to see any of them again I really let loose!
