Free Brest pump!!! Yay me :)

I searched threads and hope I'm not re-threading :-SS but I had to share!!
I called my insurance, and found out they cover up to $500 with a prescription for a breast pump! Called my doc, had her write me a script, and took it to target.... Where I picked out the one I wanted!! Took the pump and the script to the pharmacy in target and ..... Tada!! I now have an amazing $450 double breast pump that comes with bottles and everything you would need on the go, and at home :D this savvy mommy is so happy!!

Re: Free Brest pump!!! Yay me :)

  • That's awesome, my insurance covered a breast pump up to only $200 , so I was pretty happy. That was looming over my head with the crazy costs of breast pumps :)

  • Good job momma! My insurance will provide one free of change, but you have to wait until you are 30 days from delivery to order it.

  • My insurance covers one up to $300 with a prescription from a doctor. I'm going to ask my doc this week :)
  • This reminds me I still need to call. My doc said they cover one- but she couldn't remember which- then I was going to call and totally have been too busy. Maybe next week when things will be a little calmer at work and I have a day or two off...
  • That great. Thanks for the reminder. Need to call my ins.

Mine is the same, which makes me nervous!  I hope they're good about getting it shipped in time.  And what if I go into labor early?  (clearly I am stressing over unknowns, which I acknowledge is silly) I have a notice set up to order mine first thing on Nov. 10th.

I know! Before we were TTC, I used some of my FSA funds to buy one last year before the funds expired, so I have one that I can use, but I would like to have a back up or have one for work/one for home type situation. I think they are pretty good about shipping them out. A co-worker just had her baby and she got hers in time. FX its like that across the board :)

  • Thank you for posting. Just called my insurance provider and I also can go to target with a prescription and get a breast pump for free. You just saved me so much money.
  • FYI:

I had to order mine through a DME company, and I had to have specific stuff on the prescription - had to say double electric and my due date. So check with your ins or (even better) the company you have to order from before you go in for your checkup, if you're going to request your prescription. The company gave me a reference number to put on the Rx too, to make sure I got the right pump. I actually just had the OB fax the script over and I should get the pump in the mail soon.

I have a Cigna plan that's similar to a PPO, for what that's worth.

Yay covered supplies! (I would say free but whew I certainly pay for it through premiums...)

  • I love that health insurance has to cover breast pumps now! I was very happy not to pay for mine too :)
  • My insurance covers mine as well but they won't fill the prescription until I actually give birth! Then we have the option of picking it up or having it shipped to our apartment. The shipping can take 2-3 days. I tried to tell them this doesn't make sense but I guess it is better than having to pay for one. I wish I could just go to Target and get one with a prescription!

Actually you can order it now and they'll ship it one month before you're due. So I'd go ahead and place the order. If you have the baby earlier than 36 weeks, they will express it. Many insurances have the 36week requirement :( They should change it to 28 weeks!

I thought according to the AHA they are required to cover something of that sort?
