Blake as a Girl's Name

We are currently Team Green, but we are having difficulty with a girl's name.  My husband is really pushing the name Blake (it's his name) even if it is a girl.  At first, I was pretty opposed as I feel it is a boy's name, but lately I'm starting to cave.  Looking for honest opinions on the name for a girl.

If it makes any difference, my current faves are Audrey, Katherine and Felicity, all of which are much more feminine.

  • Oh geeze no. Blake is terrible on a girl. Also, I think it's totally narcissistic to name a baby after yourself.
Haha, this is my number one argument!!  I am totally willing to use Blake as a MN, though.
  • Audrey is one thousand times better than Blake. Any girl name is a thousand times better than Blake. Audrey Blake it is!

Both of these.  I have some grudging respect for juniors etc. as family tradition, but if you are so desperate to have a child named after yourself that you give a daughter your name as well as a son, you should probably chill out and listen to your wife.  I like all your ideas, especially Felicity.

  • I like it as a middle name :)

Or name your future son, Blake.

  • I would use Blake as a middle name for a girl. Felicity Blake is my favorite.

  • Blake Lively comes to mind... Not that I love it.

But I hate naming babies after oneself, so regardless, just say no.

  • I really love Blake as a middle name! I think Audrey Blake or Felicity Blake would be beautiful!

I actually was just thinking of Blake as a middle name to my favorite girl's name (even though I have another middle name picked out). I think the masculinity of Blake offsets a feminine name nicely.

  • As above.
I'm a katherine and have always loved it!

  • Nay. You need to veto that now. I'm not opposed to juniors but wanting to give your child your name even if its the opposite gender is just plain narcissistic.

  • Wow--I'm surprised people are reacting so strongly to this one! I think it's a nice name for a girl--but I do agree it works very well with your other names as a mn
  • Not that you need another opinion, but I completely agree with everyone -- your three choices are beautiful, and all totally work with Blake as the mn.

I know someone with the first name Nicole who named her son Cole "after her." Equally bizarre.
  • I actually like it as a girls name but since it's your husband's name; i woulddefinitely use as a middle name

  • I really dislike Blake as a girl's name, especially considering your H's name is Blake. I'm not a fan of juniors either (personally, don't care what others do) so this is just a lose/lose situation to me. I like your other names way more!

  • I knew a little girl named Blake and I always thought it was horrible.
  • Love it for a first name, but agree that using it as a middle name would be better considering your husbands name is Blake. Good luck. All of your potentials are really pretty.
