Question about coughing baby.

so Arya has had a cold, she caught it from her father (thanks dad!) she had a stuffed nose and a dry cough. Then she spiked a fever for two days. Now we are coming up on a week of being sick and her cough has changed. Now when she falls asleep she has a wet cough very phlemy (I know it's not a real word)

My brain is exhausted from getting up so much during the night. So should I be worried about the cough and is there something I can do for her? We don't own a humidifier, so it's not an option right now.

    I would kill for some baby Vicks.. This stupid country just doesn't have the comforts of home. I'll call the pedi in the morning.

    A sick baby is heartbreaking.

    It is heartbreaking! Personally I would invest in the humidifier if you can or run the shower with the door closed to help clear her out. I hope she feels better soon!

    We've been fighting this all week.  His is to the point that he is choking on the phlegm when he coughs.  We've had the best luck with keeping him as 'lubricated' as possible; saline drops in the nose every so often, sleeping upright if possible.  We've had the humidifier on high in his nursery, but since you don't have one, pop him in a bouncer in the bathroom and take the steamiest shower you can stand.  That will hopefully offer her some relief. (you in the shower, not your LO)

    Baby coughs are the worst and they last foreeeever. Fwiw I learned with my daughter they are often gurgley and wet sounding because stuff collects in their throat, not their chest, so it often sounds worse than it is. We did do one course of steroids when she was a baby for a "wheeze"

    Yep, wet coughs are phlegm sitting on the vocal folds.  This is what can cause them to have a choked quality and become hoarse.

    A rattling cough or wheezing could be indicative of something in the lungs.
