Pregnant after IF

Beta is lowish, but doubling time is 53.26 hours. Doctor seems concerned which is concerning.

I don't know what to make of these numbers. I was concerned on friday because 76.7 on 15dpo was the lower than even my chemical pregnancy, but today's 194.4 pleased me. But my doctor seems fine with Friday's number but was clearly concerned today. I wish I understood how to make sense of it. Any insight?

**Edit: Next test is Friday.

Is there anything I can be doing? Exercising, not exercising, more rest, more anything? I'm pretty sure the answer is no, but I'm asking anyway because I could use the reassurance.

  • My beta doubling time was 54 hours and I've read anything from 31 to 72 hours is normal. Mine wasn't concerned and didn't even have me do another beta. I would say yours is right in the range. Did they say what they were looking for it to be?

Betas suck.  I'm so sorry you're stuck in beta hell.  Honestly, all you can do is wait, and I know that's not what you want to hear.  That's not the quickest doubling time I've heard of, but  I was always told anything under 70 hours is perfectly normal.

I've seen plenty of ladies with even more sluggish beta numbers that ARE doubling (just slower than typical) go on to have perfectly healthy pregnancies.  Others, a slower increase is the first sign of an issue.  There's honestly no way for any of us, or your doctor, or you to tell until you wait to see how your next beta goes.

Probably if you had never had a chemical pregnancy, the doctor wouldn't be as worried, but he's being extra concerned simply because you do have a loss history and wants to figure out why.  Has he checked your progesterone?

My guess is it's all going to be fine, and your doctor is just worried at anything that might be less than perfect because he doesn't want to see anything go wrong.

We're here for you!  Hang in there!  When's your next beta?

  • Hmmmm, those actually seem normal to me, too. One time my nurse was worried that my betas were doubling a tiny bit slower than they expected, but my readings all said that ours was fine. Not all nurses have common sense about these things, particularly around communicating what is and is not concerning. Check out the CTP link I posted on the other beta thread, as I think you're still within the normal range.

As for the "lowish" number, I'll just say that my first beta was a 24. Yours seems great to me! ;-)

  • Are you sure that your doctor was concerned, and that you weren't just reading into his reaction? Sometimes, I think we put too much stock in what we assume our doctors are thinking, or in the tone of voice or the delivery of a statement, when really, we could just be misinterpreting something as simple as a facial expression.

I have read that there is such a wide range in beta levels and doubling times, and you should not read too much into them.  The beta doubling calculator that I used includes some ranges of levels and doubling times on the page, and you are well within the range for both.
