Subchorionic Hematoma...

I was diagnosed with this at 8 weeks and my doctor said it's fairly common.  I had light bleeding and cramping between weeks 8 and 9 but nothing since then (currently 10w 2d).  Has anyone else had this issue now or in the past?  From what I read on the web (and we all know how accurate that info is...) it's supposed to be absorbed by my body around 16 weeks. So no heavy lifting and no sex (yikes!) until the 16 week mark.  Any other info/experiences would be helpful to ease my mind. TIA

Re: Subchorionic Hematoma...

  • They told me I had one too at my 8 week scan and that it will go away. That's all they told me, nothing about no lifting or sex. I haven't worried about it because I haven't bleed at all so I was even shocked when they told me I had one. My doctors were very casual and said as long as I am not bleeding a lot it will be fine and go away on it's own so I don't even think about it now. Did you call them when you had the spotting and cramps?

  • They found one on my 7 week ultrasound but I talked to my doctor about it and she wasn't concerned. No restrictions for me. I think it depends on size and location. She just said they would check it on my next ultrasound but that they usually are absorbed. I would just follow your doctor's instructions as they know more than we do about your particular situation.

  • I had bleeding from weeks 5-7 and we first saw a SCH on ultrasound at 6 weeks. It progressively increased in size between weeks 6-8, but by week 10 it was no longer measurable. Most SCHs turn out ok, but it definitely depends on size and location among other factors. Usually they get reabsorbed or bleed out by the end of the first trimester. If they persist later in pregnancy there is a higher risk of complications.
