Thermometers

Thus far, we have been very lucky with L regarding sickness. However, with the winter approaching and with L now going to daycare, I know it's just a matter of time. We own a rectal thermometer but I want to get another one. For those of you who have other kinds, which do you recommend (ear, forehead, some other cool one I don't even know about?!).

I have the temporal (forehead)....... I love the concept, but it's a little tough when she doesn't want to sit still (like today)..... Makes me less confident that I got an accurate read.

We have the ear type but H hates it. A couple of months ago I found one that you place behind the earlobe and it reads the temp in one second. So much better, quicker, and I don't fight H on it.

Im old fashioned and just do under the arm pit with a reg thermometer. Its worked for us and seems to be accurate. But the behind the ear ones do seem cool.

I'm with Babyksmommy...we just use the old fashioned thermometer under the armpit. We had a temporal thermometer and I don't think it's very accurate so I returned it. I have never tried the ear or behind the ear one.

I have gone through two of the temporal thermometers and never got the same reading twice so I wouldn't recommend it. We ended up with the ear one and it works much better. DS doesn't mind it at all.

We have the Braun In-the-ear one that two different doctors recommended - however I'm never sure what to believe. If it's super high, then I'll buy that he's sick. But his ears are often different - VERY different if he just woke up and was sleeping on one side. Our daycare does under the arm and adds a degree - which I feel like gives him a "fever" before he really has one.

I use an under the arm one....but it is tricky to do and I usually just don't bother. He either has a fever or he doesn't and I can now tell by touch when it is more than a low grade one.

We just use the temporal one. We scan it like 5 times, then a quick one behind the ear too. They are always fairly similar. If it's >101, we move to the rectal to get a more accurate temp. I don't really dislike the temporal, though it looks like I'm in the minority. Sometimes we have to let E scan us first but she usually lets us scan her no problem.

I love the forehead (non-contact) thermometer. I think this is really perfect when our kids are going to daycare.

I recently bought the temporal. I'd been using the rectal of DD till about a month ago. Haven't had the need to use it yet though. Hopefully we'll be ok with it!

We use a temporal and, if it shows a fever >100, I double check with a rectal. I am not super confident in its abilities. They never fight either type.

I have two rectals and one temporal. But I can't ever seem to get a accurate reading on the temporal. Can we use that with a toddler? I know they said not to use on a baby
