to flu shot or not to flu shot?? I'm 12 weeks pregnant with twins & my Dr rec the flu shot. I have gotten it twice in the past & have gotten very sick from it so I'm hesitate to get it now. Thoughts?
We've had a couple threads on the subject, but my opinion is: get it. You have a weaker immune system right now and the last thing you probably want is to have to go to the hospital because you get the flu really bad.
I just got mine today. I don't like getting them either and have been sick in the past. They said it was probably coincidence and that I was probably already sick before getting the shot. I did decide to get one this time because I'm pregnant and my doctor recommended it. Now I just have to talk the SO into getting his...
If you haven't already, be sure to tell your doctor what you mean by "I got really sick". Did you get flu like symptoms, or a seizure? There is a difference. If you decide to get it, and you aren't too nauseous, you should eat immune boosting foods before and after and get extra rest. Hopefully if you are proactive you won't feel sick from it!

Recovering from mitochondrial dysfunction and Addison's/possibly very severe adrenal burn out using food, medicine, and a large amount of garden therapy.
FWIW, my doctor said she STRONGLY recommends it to women who will be delivering a baby during or at the tail end of flu season because your immunity will give the baby some immunity that he/she doesn't build up until 6 months old or so.
I got flu like syptoms after a flu sot years ago, but the last 2 years I felt fine (including the one I got 2 weeks ago at 8 weeks pregnant). Just because you felt bad in the past doesnt mean you will again.
I got mine and had a few days of feeling nasty but it's a far FAR cry from having the real flu. The real flu is multiple days of a fever above 102 ( I got up to 104 the one year I had the real flu) and non-stop aches, pains and puking. Whatever you do, make sure you're truly protecting yourself and baby
Sargeantpepper I got mine today too, but I'm fighting the same fight.. since DH and I are both active-duty, it's mandatory for us to get them annually. He claims he always gets sick on the years he gets them, but when he's managed to 'fly under the radar' and miss out, he doesn't get sick. I might have to hold him down for it this time..LOL!
Re: Flu Shot
sick like a mild cold or sick like you had an allergic reaction and had to seek medical treatment?
mild cold, aches and pains = get it anyways
severe allergic reaction = tell the doc and see if there another option
