Lucas's teacher and OT called me today to give me a rundown of his first 2 weeks in EI.
He's adjusted to the school routine wonderfully. He's very smart and is picking up on what they're teaching him very quickly ... and retaining it! Some of his behaviors are a bit disruptive but they indicate that it only takes minor redirection to get him back on track. No hour long tantrums like his brother or some of his classmates.
Yesterday, I was at work waiting to get out because I had half an hour left. DH always picks DS up from daycare and calls me on the way over.
DH was in the parking lot and and was asking what I wanted for dinner. I could not decide what we would eat while I was talking to DH. DH hands the phone to DS and DS says "Mommy, I need french fries, please!"
I was sold and was melted in my office by DS's cute voice. We went to Wendy's and got take out from there. DS did get his kid's meal.
School is going great - and DS is really happy about his friends and teachers. He comes home every day and tells me about what songs they sing in class, and what they are learning.
Also I just found out that DS has just been accepted to a pullout reading class, where a small group of children practice with a teacher 2-5x a week for 30min each day! This is wonderful, and he is excited to be going.
One of DDs classmates is over the top polite and dd has begun emulating him. Score one for the good guys that she picked up a positive behavior vs a negative one!!
He imitated me raking leaves and waved goodbye to the school bus when prompted.
We won't discuss how incredibly horrible the speech evaluation went yesterday. Lets just say the SLP was an awful fit, had no effing clue how to deal with an autistic child, and we won't be going back to her.
I receive a daily behavior chart from DS's teacher and today the majority of the areas were smiley faces! Also, I have received zero "come pick your son up for behavior reasons" since his new medicine (almost two weeks)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DS1 needs new pants this winter, by a long shot. Yay! I Just bought him some new 3T pants and I won't even want them to shrink a little (of course this means more stuff I have to line dry, but that's OK). I'm so excited about 3T! The issue is not having a small kid, but a kid that started out being 90th percentile and dropped to 50th, barely growing between age 2 and 3. He was wearing 24M pants last winter, at 3.
I got to "sleep in" until 6:20 AM today. I was happy because the last 2 mornings he was up at 5:45 AM. He usually only does the before 6 AM wake-up for 2 consecutive days before giving us a little break. It's just that those 2 days of extra early usually fall on the weekend. Awful! So today was nice.
