Does anyone have cute ideas on how to reveal your babies gender in a cute way, but minus the whole party shenanigans? I'm mainly looking for a fun way to let our families know.
I have a friend who announced this in a cute way. She had her u/s the week before a bunch of us girlfriends were already planning on getting together at the pool. She brought cupcakes filled with either blue or pink filling. Everyone bit into the cupcake at the same time and saw blue filling!
It was a fun, cute way to find out she was having a boy without her being AW-ish. We ate cupcakes, hugged and congratulated her, then moved on with the rest of the get-together.
We just took a picture with two huge stuffed pink dogs and posted in on Facebook. I've seen belly shots with the woman's hands in the shape of a heart, then in the next, the hands are lifted to reveal pink or blue handprints in the shape of a heart..
If you choose balloons, PLEASE do NOT release them into the sky. They will eventually deflate and can be swallowed by (and kill!!!) birds, fish, and other animals.
Instead of releasing balloons into the sky, you can
1. Take pictures of you opening the box and them escaping somewhere indoors, like your home
2. Fill balloons with standard air instead of helium (so they fall to the ground) and find a way to drop them on you for a picture, so you've got balloons raining down on you instead of watching them float away
The cupcake idea is great! I've also seen people do those poppers which release pink or blue confetti. Those are small cute and easy. We just did the gender reveal when we announced on FB. We found out due to some other tests we were having at 13 weeks.
Its a lot of fun, but pictures are best, I think. Its something you can put in the baby album!
We called our parents, siblings, and best friends to share the news. Then I posted an ultrasound picture (of his profile) on FB and wrote "Baby ____ is made of snips and snails and puppy dog tails." That was about as cutesy as we were going to get.
We were going to MIL's house for dinner. I baked a strawberry (pink) cake and just used white icing. We had dinner and when the cake came out, we gave MIL the knife and told her that when she cut the cake, she'd find out what her first grand baby. It was simple but exciting because no one was expecting it.
My mom was long distance and I couldn't wait until the weekend to drive up and see her, so I called her shrieking with excitement as soon as the ultrasound tech left the room.
Instead of making a cake which reveals the color once (like for a party), I made cookies with the color in it and gave them to everyone who are not together at a party. Neighbors, coworkers, family or whoever you've got to tell. So for a fb announcement we just posted the picture of the kids with the inside of their blue cookies! But there was still a individual surprise for everyone who got a cookie!
I just did it at a time where we were all together anyway. I didn't let anyone know I had a plan. When it was dessert time, I told them I made cupcakes. Before they bit in, I let them know the color would determine gender. It was a surprise that we were going to announce until seconds before it happened..no big hoopla or anything
