I started pumping at 8 weeks and waited an hour after when she first started the last feed. I got more milk if I waited an hour v. just 30 minutes.

I suggest pumping in the morning after your first feeding because that is when you should be most full. Baby probably won't empty both sides so you will be able to get more pumped vs pumping after each feeding. I was always worried if I pumped an hour after a feeding my baby might end up wanting more sooner than I thought and I wouldn't have as much for her (she prefers a full/fast flow).

When I started at about 4 weeks, I would just pump immediately after feeding LO in the morning- either the 6 or 8 wake up depending on how awake I was or if she went back to sleep. I have an abundant supply and the morning pump let's me be comfortable. Even now that I'm back to work I still pump in the am after dropping off LO at daycare.
Re: If pumping to start a supply how long after a feeding do you pump?
