Forget crawling, I want to WALK!!

DS has been in a phase the past week or two where he hates not being vertical. He has to sit or stand at all times or he is not a happy camper. We were holding his hands and letting him stand and bounce over at my mom's house earlier and he saw her walk into the room and started actually trying to take real, determined steps towards her. I followed behind and just let him lead as I balanced him. He had to take a couple breaks, but he actually really tried to get over to her. What happened to trying to scoot and crawl?!? You missed a step bud, back up and try again. I'm not ready for this! Does any STM+ have experience with early walkers? Or is anyone else starting this yet? I know I never crawled and went straight to walking at 10 months and babies in my family normally walk between 7 and 10 months, but I'm still not ready for DS to try and start learning at 5.5 months :( i know it'll be a long time still before he's moving on his own, but watching him today made me both really proud and sad. What happened to my tiny newborn?

  • DD is 4.5 months and loves to stand with me holding her hands!
  • Loading the player...
  • He was doing that a just a few weeks ago! Then all of a sudden it was like BAM, personality and ambition. I swear the phrase my DH hears most now is "When did he learn to do THAT?!?" Out of nowhere it was playing with toys, sitting without supporting himself, trying to play with my phone (oops), and now trying to take steps!

  • DS is the same. Hates to lay down wants to stand. He's been like this for a while now. He does the same and takes steps but no I'm sure it will be a long while. He's up on all fours already then starfishes so we may have a crawler here soon.
  • Pretty sure he's trying to copy his cousin who's 6 months older, but still :((

  • DS has no interest in crawling at all. He will do tummy time and roll everywhere for a minute if you sit with him, but he shows no interest in trying to move that way.

  • DD is a mover! Rolls like crazy. When I hold her hands with her standing, she moves her feet like she is tap dancing. I can hardly change her diaper or clothes anymore because she moves so much :)
  • DS rolls from back to belly, but not the other way. Sits when assisted, but shows no real interest in doing it on his own. He does seem to really want to crawl, he tries so hard to move forward, and does spin in circles when on his belly, but we're def. no where near walking of any kind.

This is exactly what our DS does too. I keep trying to get him to roll back to his back. He will learn when he wants to I guess.
  • Ha my ds is still trying to master the whole fully rolling business! He sits assisted and likes tummy time but that's about it. Your kiddo is def an exception for this age. Good luck!

I'm gonna keep enjoying being able to put ds where I want him and he stays lol
