Gift for mom on baby's first bday?

One of my very close friends daughter is turning one soon and I wanted to get her something nice. Any ideas?

    Why would you give the mother a gift on her child's birthday. Also what about the child's other parent?

    I just thought it would be nice to get her something. It's been a rough year for both of us and we talk everyday. It was just an idea.

    It is nice, and I think it's dumb that you got flak for something that was a sweet idea. I doubt the dad will be pouting and asking, "Where's MY present??"

    I don't have any suggestions because I suck at gift ideas, but I like the suggestions you've gotten so far.
