Question...STM+

Ok...so today. Ventured out by myself with both boys for the first time. Had a great day with my family. DS2 only screamed for half the car ride? Ugh! So as I turned onto my street tonight with both boys sound asleep I had my moment of sheer panic! Who on earth would I take inside first??? DS is 23 months and DS2 is just 1 month. What do you do??????

Re: Question...STM+

  • So my situation is a little bit different because we have an attached garage but when we go out or even just at home I get the infant seat out first and then grab DD1 and carry both together or make dd walk. I know it sounds crazy but carrying both is usually how I handle it, if that's not an option for you I would bring the baby in first in come back for sleeping toddler.

  • I have an attached garage and usually have help if i got anywhere else... i didn't venture far with the twins alone and I don't plan on it with the 3. But my toddlers usually aren't sleeping so I unhook them and they get out of their car seats and can go into the house themselves and then I grab the baby. Or I'll put the baby in the house first and then unhook the toddlers.

  • Well, DH is usually with me just because I'm only two weeks out from my RCS, but seeing where we live and the people around here, I would take DD out first, and then I would have to wake DS up and make him walk inside. He's four and getting way too heavy for me to carry.
  • Only one of my back doors open, because I'm classy! ;) so I have DD1 (15mo) in the middle and LO on the side. We live out in the boonies so no one is ever around. So I grab LO and the diaper bags, etc and stick them all in the house and run out and grab DD1. She's not very good at the steps yet so I haven't been letting her come up with me carrying LO, she knows the deal and doesn't freak when I run into the house. I have grabbed them both before, if that makes you feel more at ease. I park right in front of my house so I can hear her and she's only alone for the time it takes me to sit LO down. Grabbing both is doable.
  • Usually smaller kid first then get bigger kid if they are still sleeping.

  • Sleeping I would do baby first. Awake I walk them both together. We street park so DS is behind the driver. I unbuckle DS then go around and get The bucket seat and have DS exit the van on the passenger side. If that makes sense...

  • When this happens and I'm at my mom's (I'm always there) I taking the baby in first and then come back for the sleeping toddler. It hasn't happened to me yet at our new apartment, but when it does, I'll either have to carry both or wake DD1 up. Our car gets parked outback and I have to walk to the front of the building and upstairs to my house. If I tried carrying both, I would probably take DD2 out of the bucket seat and carry her in my arms.

  • I take DS out first and he goes in alone and then I grab the carrier with DD. Now, when we are out I decided that getting her out first and putting the carrier in front of me while getting DS out of his seat is easiest and then I hold his hand, carry the carrier, and walk into the store. The other day at Home Depot I grabbed a cart, got DS out first and then grabbed DD and put her in the big area of the cart. I think it will change depending on the situation and the age of the kiddos.

  • I unhook DD who is two then grab the car seat and DD walks. If she's asleep I still get the car seat bc she will stay asleep.
  • That's called double nap jail. You put your car in reverse, go get Taco Bell and Starbucks, and sit in your car Bumping.

Make it dutch bros and I'm in
  • I take DS (21 months) out first whether he's asleep or awake, then go back for DD who is usually asleep.
  • @sparklegrump‌ Normally that is along the lines of what I would do, but this was 9pm last night! My own fault for staying out too late. Usually I can easily navigate bc Ds1 is awake and can walk. If he's awake I get LO out and then walk around and unbuckle him and he walks. The problem was last night dS1 was asleep for the night. Lesson learned.....get home before bedtime if I'm out alone with both.
