Parenting after a Loss

pumping moms (working moms)

what do you pump into?  I was at first thinking that I was going to pump into bottles but I really don't have a lot of extra bottles and don't want to go buy any more.

I bought some of those 2.5 oz storage cylinder things without really knowing what they were and was thinking of using those to pump directly into.  I will probably have to use 4 per session but I have a ton of them and that way it would keep the bottles more readily available.

Anyone else use these?

  • I have a Medela PIS.  I pump into the little medela bottles it comes with and then when I get home I put it in lansinoh bags to freeze or into the Playtex dropins that she drinks from when I'm not there.

  • I used a Medela pump, and pumped into the plastic bottles.  When I was done I poured the milk into storage bags (either the Gerber or Lansinoh ones) and took them home to freeze.
  • Duh, I didn't even think about this! I guess I'll be pumping into the medela bottles like I do now, and transfer into Lansinoh bags afterwards and stick those in a cooler pack in the fridge at work and transfer to my freezer when I get home each night. I don't have near enough Medela bottles (only 4 I think) to keep the pumped milk in those during the daytime... I have a feeling (hoping) that I'll be able to pump at least 3 times during the work day.

  • Although, now that I'm thinking about it, maybe I should just buy some more medela bottles and pump into those and keep the milk in those until I get home? I'm hoping and praying that my milk supply stays strong and that I can get a good 10-12 ounces between both breasts at each pumping session. That would mean 2 bottles per session, so I'd need 6 bottles total, give or take, for a day. I guess?

  • I think you can pump directly into the Medela bags.  I had a couple that came with my pump and there was a tab on them to stick them on.  The directions were too complicated for my sleep-deprived mind at the time though.

I'm actually weaning DD, so I'm only pumping at night now.  My supply was tanking and we've been supplementing, so I figured going back to work was a good time to stop.
