Is there a 9 month wakeful?

Back to regularly scheduled programming.

Is there a 9 month wakeful? This kid is just not sleeping well. Tossing and turning all night, doesn't want to be put down, wide awake at odd hours. I don't think it's teeth and he isn't seeming unwell during the day so it's not illness.

I mean, it doesn't really matter if there is or isn't because something is going on with this kid the last few nights, but it's kind of reassuring to know others are suffering sharing similar experiences.

Re: Is there a 9 month wakeful?

  • My son is going through this right now. He just turned 9 months old on Monday. Naps just fine during the day and has normal schedule but come bed time, he sleeps for 15 mins, starts flopping around in his crib then refuses to sleep even though he's clearly tired.

    Fun times.

  • Us too... last night was as follows: asleep at 8pm.  awake at 9:00, 10:00, 11:00, 12:00, 4:00, 6:30, and up for the day at 7am.  No teeth coming in, no cold, no nothing.  Just awake all. damned. night.  And of course, I have stupid first trimester insomnia, so when she goes back to sleep, I do NOT.  So fun.  Naps are totally normal for us too.  I don't get it.  I'm just so thankful that I stay at home with her and can nap when she naps.  Showering will have to take a back seat for bit, sleep is more important, sorry DH ;)
  • Yeah we have added in instead of eliminating a night wake-up. Of course he sleeps while I'm awake and after I go to work, dh gets to sleep in most mornings until a reasonable hour.
  • I think there is. We went through something similar a few weeks ago (she's 8 months old) and it was brutal for about 2 weeks. Waking up at 4:30-5am and taking shitty 30-40 minute naps. All of this also happened as we were preparing to move so I almost dove off a cliff. Luckily, she snapped out of it in the nick of time and is now back to sleeping alllll the time.
  • Mine on occasion has been waking at 4 like this morning. I Fed her and put her back in her crib today with a toy and she ended putting herself back to sleep. It was great! (Normally she doesn't out her self to sleep very well)

    This.
  • The last few weeks have been rough at our house but she seems to be back to one wake up again as of 3 nights ago. At least I sure hope it has passed because it was getting rough. She does have teeth coming in and we've been having a hard time keeping her room consistent temperature so it could have been those more then a developmental wakeful time though.
  • Hoyt has been up a bit extra, but I'm attributing it milestones, teeth?, and allergies.

    Noooooooooooo. I sure hope not.

We just went through a wakeful week with teething and a cold last week and this week he slept great. And I think a week before that I thought he was going through a sleep regression cause he was crawling and few days later was walking with a walker. He was up most nights for 3-4 nights straight. Their little brains are in overload with all the things their learning. It's never fricken ending. One week their in a good routine and the next goes to shit.
    Edit- hit post to soon
  • The past month with River has been awful. Up 3 and 4 times a night this could explain a lot. She'll be 9 months tomorrow, but *fingers crossed* the past 3 nights she's slept from 9p-7a. I'm really hoping it's going to be her new routine...totally not getting my hopes up though.
  • Glad we're not the only ones!

The other night I finally got to bed at 5am. Trying hard not to resent ds and dh (who gets to sleep)

It's getting worse. He's exhausted, but so freaking alert at the save time. After fighting to get him in bed last night I went to a movie with my sister. Came home to crying baby and frazzled DH. Got in bed at 3 something, he was awake again at 5:30 and would not go back down. I had to wake DH at 8 to take over. Tonight seems to be headed down the same path :(

  • We are dealing with wakefulness too. I was originally thinking it was teeth but now after a week and a half of seeing nothing I'm not entirely sure. He is just restless, up mostly every hour. Goes back to bed easily just wakes so frequent. This mama is getting tired of being tired!
  • Been happening for about 3 weeks now. Waking up every 1-2 hours crying. His eyes are closed so he's clearly tired but just won't calm down. Add teething and a cold. This mama isn't getting any sleep.
    Please end now!!!
  • So glad to read that others are experiencing this too....not glad that others are suffering, but glad that I am not doing something horribly wrong.  I have been frantically searching for answers on what I could possibly do differently besides CIO (which I tried and she ended up screaming and crying so hard she threw up everywhere).  Oh, and if I hear my husband say "I wake up every time she does too" one more time.....I will not be able to be held accountable for my actions.
