How does F14 do it?

It is a serious accomplishment to get a diaper on this wiggle worm anymore.  I know it seems like a silly discussion, but I can't be the only one doing battle.  Tips?  Tricks?  I have *minor* success trying to distract him with a toy but he still wants to roll to hands and knees right away.

Re: How does F14 do it?

  • We struggled with this as well. Toys helped, or singing energetically. After a while she stopped trying to flip over every time. Or try enlisting your DH's help.

  • I do diaper changes on the floor now so if she rolls she won't get hurt. I have a toy that lights up and makes sounds, and has crinkly wings that she likes to chew on. It's our diaper changing toy :) DH gives her a peg to chew on (from a Melissa and Doug toy where you hammer the pegs through the holes).

  • Oh, and I make sure I have everything ready to go so I can work quickly :)

  • Sorry, I have no advice. I keep some small toys in the diaper basket to try and distract him. The most successful is his rubber ducky but if he really wants to roll then we have a wrestling match that usually ends in someone crying.

  • I do a lot of changes with LO standing up in the crib. He stopped rolling for a while, but has started doing it again. I'm afraid this is just the new normal

  • Haven't tried singing yet.  Thanks @JammersC and @lbliss.  I like the idea of handing him a clean diaper @bookshelves.  I agree with working quickly @ramfan05.  Like @bookshelves says, I think of it like a pit stop at a race :)
  • It is a huge battle over here too.  I try to give him his pants to hold or another diaper.  That sometimes works.

  • nothing over here works. i give him clean diapers to play with, toys, songs, i try and do it quick change. nope. LO ALWAYS rolls around and flips over and its a mess. even worse if i need to use diaper rash cream because it ends up EVERYWHERE. i fail at diaper changes  :-q

  • I have a toy that he only gets to play with during diaper changes. The novelty of not seeing the toy in his regular play helps. I also have an old remote with no batteries. He feels like he has achieved something as he never gets to play with the remote otherwise.
  • Toy, peek a boo using a burp cloth, music, prayer.

  • With DS1 he was so bad I tired everything. I put a mobile on the changing table, would give him toys, clean diapers. I finally would just have to change him on the floor with one of my legs on top of him across his body to hold him down (sounds so awful, lol). ::::knock on wood :::: DS2 hasn't been as bad about it, I can just give him a clean diaper and make funny noises. :)

I usually give her the clean diaper to hold. I think she thinks she's helping. And then I go as quickly as possible, like a pit crew at a race.

Exactly this! Everything else fails for us.
Over here too! Diapers are perfect distractors!

  • The wipes packet works for us...and saying over n over again "Are you the wet wipe dispenser?" in an irritatingly high pitched voice!
Any toy that makes a sound is usually good too...but only long enough to get a new diaper on, the clothes I have to out on after she's rolled and mid crawl!
  • I've become surprisingly skilled at putting a diaper on backwards...as in when she's crawling around.

Sometimes a toy (or my phone) will keep her occupied enough for a reduced-wiggle diaper changing session.

  • I was seriously thinking about getting the Huggies Little Movers *Slip-On* variation to see if it was easier...
