Cloth Diapering

Non-diaper laundry question

Hi ladies! I lurk some and basically learned the ins and outs of cloth diapering from you all. I'm wondering if someone can help me with my unpaper towel/cloth napkin/bib laundry. I sometimes have been getting what I think is mold or mildew (not sure) that doesn't seem to wash out. There are black spots that stay through multiple washes. What is this stuff and how can I get it out & prevent it in the future?

Re: Non-diaper laundry question

  • How long are you going between washing and how are you washing them? Wash routine?

  • Roughly every third day. Wash in hot water some times on the "heavy soiled" setting with powdered detergent and occasionally bleach. I also have a "sanitize" setting on the washer but that takes over two hours so I've only done it a handful of times. Dry in the dryer on high heat.
  • Ah, I meant how are you storing them, not to ask wash routine twice.

  • Could it be a stain of some sort?
  • Sounds like they got a little mildewed and it stained. Don't let them sit around wet.

We have a cabinet that's got a trash can that we use as a hamper for them. But it's a wire basket with no lid not a can so it allows for some circulation.
