Question about breastfeeding?!

okay so I have heard of breastfeeding moms not introducing baby food and such to their babies at 6 months and I said something to my parents about it because I don't want her to stop nursing and what other foods instead at 6 months and they flipped out screaming at me telling me I was going to starve my baby and breastmilk wasn't enough for her. Is this true??
They have me bawling my eyes out and I feel like I can't win with them.

    Okay thank you so much! I was unsure and I've heard of people only giving breastmilk for the first year. Although now I feel stupid bc my parents and I argued over it lol

    You wouldn't starve your baby doing EBM past the first six months, it's just not necessary.

    The reason for avoiding other foods prior to six months is that babies still have what's called an "open gut". They're just not designed to be able to process foods before then. Somewhere 5-6 months along their guts close and their bodies can handle foods then. However, they're still not going to be getting much nutrition, it's mostly for fun and for them to learn with.

    There's a saying "Under one, just for fun!" While that's overly simplistic, and they do get /some/ nutrients under the age of one, breastmilk is still designed to fulfill their needs. Baby food on its own would not be sufficient.

    Okay thank you ladies so much! I hope I'm replying to these correctly I'm new n I'm not sure how to do everything on here lol my parents were saying that they need baby food at 6 months because they won't get full without it and they know nothing about breastfeeding and tried to argue with me that I won't produce enough milk for her and the more she eats the less I'll make. Which I know is not true. But of course they know everything and I know nothing and on top of that my mother nor my grandmothers ever breastfed.
