Baby comparison?

Am I just being a super cranky pregnant lady or does it annoy anyone else when family looks at your sonogram pictures and tries to figure out who in the family the baby looks like? I understand the baby will look like someone on either my side or his, but is that really the only thing that matters? I get so tired of hearing "She looks like........"

A fetus. She looks like a fetus and you're making your guesses based on a black and white ultrasound photo. It really irritates me. Am I being crazy?! (It's okay if I am and you say it lol)

Gah.

Re: Baby comparison?

  • Ultrasound is a pretty cool technology when you consider that they're making a picture from sound waves bouncing off of things. DH and I were talking about that.

I don't get annoyed by it. I just say "we'll see." Even when DS was born, he looked more like DH, but now he looks more like me or 50/50. I hate to say it, but get used to it, because people will be making comparisons for a long time. DS is 22 months now, and it hasn't stopped.

  • It's a little silly, but all in good fun. I don't see it as anything to get irritated about.

  • Even when they come out, someone will always want to "figure out" who they look most like. Like @Maebb‌ said, it's gonna happen forever lol. My daughter is almost 3 and family still does it.

  • Lol I know I should definitely get used to it....I think my hormones have the best of me today! :)
  • Is just fun because there's not much to say when someone shows you a sonogram.
  • You ladies have changed my mind! I'll let it go and be nice!! Lol thanks :)
  • Wanna know something? When I was pregnant with DS 2 (dh first biological baby) I went in for my 20 weeks ultrasound. We got a really really good profile shot. I knew, and our family knew by the profile shot I got he'd look like his dad.

He's exact mirror image of his dad!
With DS3, we couldn't tell, until we had a 4d ultrasound.

Was it a lucky guess? Possibly.
    I doubt it though.

  • Yup, and it continues after birth....
DH's family swears that DS1 looks exactly like DH as a child, while my family thinks he looks just like my brother as a kid. Nope, folks, he looks like himself!
  • My grandmother thinks both my kids look just like her as a child. She has alzheimer's so she can say whatever she wants! ;)
  • My sister is due a couple of weeks after me, and it's already obvious from the scans that our babies will look really different facially. Our baby has a small nose and not overly pronounced chin, while her baby had much stronger features. Although ultrasounds aren't 'photographs', they're not totally random either - you can get little hints!
  • In our daughters 3d/4d ultrasounds she looked exactly like my husband. Spitting image it was almost weird. Everyone said it. She came out and she is my identical twin as a baby. She really looks nothing like my husband other than her skin tone and hair color. But some of his family will still say she looks "just like johnny". Him and I both just laugh at this point. When she was first born it annoyed me because she looked nothing like him and it was only his family members that would say it, like god forbid we recognize that she is also me. But now it doesn't bother me at all. I just realize people will see what they want and it doesn't really matter, she looks like "herself" as other pp's said. If she looked like my husband that'd be great, I married him and find him extremely attractive, if she looks like me great. As @stargirlb said, no one really has anything else to say when you show them those pics and lets be honest, we all get them so we can "see what baby looks like" so we are all doing it as well :)
  • You could probably shut them up if you're having a boy by saying "sure it's face looks like so and so but I think his penis looks like his daddy's"

  • Absolutely. What overwhelms me more is the thought of people doing that after my child is born. The baby looks like themselves. They're their own unique individual. If I compare, that's one thing they're my child.

    End rant. Overwhelmed FTM here.
  • Ha ha mil said lo had my nose in an ultrasound. I replied with of course he does have you ever seen a baby with a big pointy nose? I guess she never got the memo about how your ears and nose never stop growing. Also I learned shortly after that, that babies have snub noses to make it easier for them to nurse. I guess mine just never changed ;-)
  • @GromMom‌, DH has a huge honker of a nose (not to be mean; of course I think he's good looking, but he always makes fun of himself for it). It seems like kids' noses never really get big until they're in middle school, so DH and I joke that DS' nose looks like mine now (smaller and more rounded), but we'll have to wait and see whose nose it is when he's older.
