GTKY: Oktoberfest! (n3tr)

So, I live near a town that bears a striking resemblance to southern German towns (Bavarian style...even the 76 station and the McDonald's look Bavarian) and today is the first day of Oktoberfest!

What is your favorite beer? And are you celebrating Oktoberfest this year?

  • I don't drink beer but DH does so we went to our Oktoberfest last weekend and I got some tasty sausages. I think there's another one next weekend too.

  • I've recently tried  the Traveler Jack-O.  Very good pumpkin taste.  I did not like the Sam Adams pumpkin beer, but enjoy their Oktoberfest.  I am itching to try Blue Moon's fall sample pack.  It's on next weekends shopping list  ;)

DH got the Blue Moon pack last fall and loved them. He loves Blue Moon anything, though (except for some maple one, I think).

  • I love all the beers! We are from WI and DH is into homebrewing so it's kind of a requirement. My favorite beer of all time is made by New Glarus Brewing Co, a smallish WI brewery...it's an APA called Moon Man. Yum yum. I like most of what DH makes (save for a bad or experimental batch here and there) and I love anything pumpkin in the fall. I really need to try this Shipyard Pumpkinhead people talk about...hadn't heard of it before but maybe it's not big in the midwest? Or I just live under a rock. Not sure if we are doing any official Octoberfest events. I always thought I'd be in the "drink till it's pink" camp but I am already finding myself scaling back as we approach our IVF this month. Guess I better enjoy it while I can before we hopefully get KU'd!

  • I'm not a big beer drinker.... (Though I do like hard cider, so maybe I need to try the pumpkin stuff??)

However, I'm in charge of bringing Oktoberfest themed snacks to work later this month, so this seems like a good place to say if you have any good German recipes that travel well, let me know!

  • Pumpkin beers are some of my favorites! As a good now DE resident of course I love Dogfish Head pumpkin beer. Souther Tier Pumking is really good too, and my last favorite is the Evolution pumpkin. For not pumpkin beers my favorites are pilsners or wheat beers. I never liked beer until I spent my junior year of college in Prague and drinking beer was cheaper than water. I acquired a taste for it really quickly then, and as a result am partial to that style beer like Pilsner Urquell. I also generally enjoy any micro brews. @Je11yBean85‌ I love Yards and am glad they have it around here since we're so close to Phili!

  • I'm not a big beer drinker, but when I do I like a cold beer on a hot summer day, preferably Yingling, I think it's an East Coast beer because when we went to Vegas last year they looked at my H and I like we were nuts when we asked if they had it. I do love an Oktoberfest, then again I love anything that reminds me of fall. This is my last weekend to enjoy, starting stims in another week and a half and I'm cutting out alcohol (boo). Cheers!

  • I'm not much of a beer person either. I prefer Sun King Osiris (Indy brew) and if that's not available I stick with the high class Miller Lite. But I do love me some German food!!!

This West Coast girl loves her some Yuengling also! Since it is not available on my coast, I love a good pumpkin spice ale, like Blue Moon's Harvest Moon.

  • @hrushka‌ I am actually wearing my Spotted Cow sweatshirt RIGHT NOW lol! It is definitely my go-to beer when I am not in the mood for something more adventurous. I think New Glarus beers might only be sold in WI, DH knows thos "rules" better than I do. Same thing (kind of) with Yuengling, I don't think it's sold west of Ohio? At least you live close enough to the border you can get some Cow when needed!
