Pregnant after a Loss

Crampy and worried

Very little sleep last night, and today I'm feeling crampy. So anxious already, as I lost my first pregnancy at 8w, but was told development stopped between 6/7. I'm 6w4d today, and have my first U/S Monday (my doc suggested a little earlier this time around). I haven't felt crampy since finding out last month, so I'm feeling really anxious about this today. No spotting, just crampy and back-achey. Since these symptoms had faded a few weeks ago, I'm not sure what may be up. Anyone else feeling this way?
I wish everyone the best for sticky beans!

  • I had cramping off and on throughout the entire first trimester.  It's very common.  I know it's super scary, though.  I checked for blood every time I went to the bathroom for a long time.  As long as it isn't very painful (my doctor told me a 6 or higher on a scale of 1-10) and you aren't bleeding, it probably is just normal pregnancy stuff.  I hope that you find some peace until your appointment on Monday and that you get good news then!

  • I'm 8 weeks 2 days and have had cramps on and off. It always helps when I drink lots of water and lie down on my side. Try to get some extra rest if you can. Hugs!

  • I am 9w1d and have had crampy feeling off and on the entire time!  I take them as positive signs, but also maybe signs from my body that I am not drinking enough or doing too much! So I always grab a glass of water, and rest for a bit and it feels much better!  I also asked my Dr about this at my apt on Tuesday bc they seem to show up if I hold my pee cause I am not near a bathroom or something and she said that could be a trigger and would be completely normal.  Hope you feel better soon!

  • I was definitely crampy in the first trimester.  My OB said it was perfectly normal because everything is stretching and moving about.

  • Thank you, everyone!! I appreciate the positive thoughts!! It helps to know that this seems normal. I'll try to up my water intake. I hope to have some good news on Monday. :)
  • ((hugs))!  The first trimester is so worrying.  I had cramps through the entire first trimester and also at points in the second trimester.  As PP mentioned, my OB said it was a normal reaction (as long as there was no blood) to a stretching uterus.  More ((hugs)), PGAL is rough.

  • I did this poll here about my cramping early on, and it seems like some cramping was pretty common:
    https://forums.thebump.com/discussion/12419600/cramping-poll-how-much-how-bad-how-often-during-the-first-tri#latest
I'll also add that I've given up trying to discern cramps from other sensations in the abdomen. There are weird feelings that come when your organs are shifting around, and most pregnant women have digestive issues, too, that can cause all kinds of discomfort. Endo ladies, like me, also can be bothered by scar tissue. All of these things are considered harmless! For me, I get more if I overexert myself and fail to drink water. I'm not sure if that's related to any actual cramping, but I figure that resting up and staying hydrated are always good ideas!

  • Hey I know how ya feel. Every Time i feel crampy PgAL brain goes nuts. I am currently at 13w3d and have had cramps off and on the whole time and everything has been fine. My Doc says that is normal because your body has to adjust and stretch for baby. ::hugs:: I know it is scary. Hang in there.

    ALL WELCOME!

  • I'm about 7w4d, and we did see the HB last week but I'm still terrified of course.  But anyways I've also been having the cramping and lower back aches that you've been mentioning.  I just keep saying to myself 'baby is setting up shop', and honestly for me personally I think my bowel movements were partly to blame.  So much is going on in there, stretching, and growing, and trying to move through its only natural that some cramps and pains are going to happen.  No blood is a good sign!

  • I'm crampy some days with bad low back ache. One morning I woke up after a night of back ache and light cramps convinced I had miscarried. But it was just pgal brain driving me nuts. To be honest I was actually surprised that I didn't mc on those occasions that I was crampy with back ache. I didn't know that it can just be a normal pregnancy symptom. But it is :)

Definitely hard to quiet the Pgal brain! It's a struggle, but I try to balance it with positive thoughts. The mantras help, as does your advice, experience, and good thoughts! Every symptom change or shift drives me batty (hmmm, why are my breasts less sore? why does the stretching / pain seem to be focused on my lower left??). I love my baby and am pregnant until someone tells me otherwise. Monday seems so far!
