Working moms who BF/pump

With DD, I would nurse and pump during the work week and then exclusively nurse during the weekend. Did that for a year with no problems. This time, both my body and baby are having a hard time doing this. I'm finding myself keeping the same schedule regardless of whether it's a weekday or wknd. My supply just
Isn't doing what I want it to. So I'm left with pumping 4 times a day and nursing in the evening and MOTN.
This is a weird change for me and I'm not sure how I feel about it. I'm wondering what other working moms do?

Re: Working moms who BF/pump

  • I nurse at home and pump at work. My schedule is a weird rotation! Short work days I don't pump at all, half days I pump once and full days twice. So far it is working but she isn't on any sort of a schedule besides eat when hungry. I can tell my supply dips in the evening, so DD eats more then. Hate the pumping!

  • I pump 2 times at work or at least try. Sometimes I only get one pump in, others I work in 3. I work 8-5. When at home in the evenings and weekends I nurse. I hate pumping. I hate cleaning parts, storing milk, and the time it takes so the least amount of pumping necessary for me. DDs schedule on the weekends isn't normally right on track from weekdays but we don't seem to notice a difference in supply or demand.
  • I hate pumping too! I have no idea why it was so seamless with my first child and so different this time! Over the past month when I try to just nurse all weekend I end up with a frustrated baby who is used to immediate milk from the bottle and frustrated with waiting on let down. My supply is just not the same either. I make enough for the next day with pumping but I'm not ever full. With my first I had an oversupply so this is wayyyy different.

  • I pump 3 times during my 12 hour shift and BF at home. I only work 3 days a week so my supply is ok. I was concerned I wasn't pumping enough but I got smaller horns and I've been good
  • I nurse in the morning before work, pump 3 times during work (occasionally only twice), nurse when i get home, nurse to sleep, pump before i go to bed, and then repeat the next day :) 4 pumping sessions for 2 bottles (we do a third bottle of formula at daycare)

I hate pumping too but this seems to work for us. My biggest issue is when she is having a bottle at daycare, its 4-5 ounces so she is used to being really full. on weekends, she doesn't get that much from me each nursing session so she gets frustrated sometimes but we supplement so in that situation I top her off and all is well.

  • I work 6-430 and pump twice a day. Early in the week my supply is good and I struggle pumping enough by the end of the week . On weekends we just nurse. My problem is on the weekends I have a letdown like every 15 minutes and leak all weekend long plus I have a forceful somewhat painful letdown so it's annoying. I don't get too engorged so that's good, but my body can't handle being around LO and my boobs just lose it! I even letdown when I am playing/cuddling my 2.5 yr old (who stopped nursing at 1).

I pump 3x a day at work and get more than DS takes (for now at least). I nurse in the evenimgs and overnight when I'm with DS. Then on weekends I nurse but typically pump at night because I'm pretty full and want to keep the little bit extra my body has been making.

This. On days I work I may or may not feed him before I leave depending in if he's awake or not... And he always gets a bottle before bed.

When I pump I get about 32 oz, when he feeds he feeds about 6 times plus his bedtime bottle. He usually doesn't wake in the night, and I don't pump then.

  • I had a stash built up from before I started back at work in August, and that has been the only reason I have been able to keep up so far.  I pump twice at work (8-5), once in the morning and once in the afternoon, but I go visit her day care at lunch and feed her, so that helps a lot as well.  I pretty much always BF when I'm with her.  I do find I have to feed her more often on weekends though.

I am not sure what I will do if I start getting behind.  Either supplementing or trying to find a time to add in a pumping session.

I am hoping to cut down to working 3 days a week soon, so if I do, that should solve my problem since I'll be able to pump at home while she naps to get some extra stored up.  I hate pumping and dealing with all the parts... blehhh.
