Slippery floors?

So dd is an active tummy-dragging crawler, we have all hardwood floors and I feel like unless she has traction she's never going to pick up her tummy. Plus, with the cooler weather she wears socks so pulling up on furniture is a whole new game. She wears a lot of fleece and the poor kid slides everywhere!
Is anyone else having this kind of problem? Does anyone have any suggestions?

Re: Slippery floors?

  • Ah yes, I thought this about DD for the longest time. I finally got rid of pants and socks and only had her wear long sleeve onesies so she could get her legs and feet to have traction on our hardwoods. Turn the temp up in the house and let as much of her skin touch the floor as possible. The other option is to get a rubber mat from like Home Depot or something that helps give traction. She still doesn't wear footie pjs or any fleece when she is up and about because she will slip all over the place.
  • Loading the player...
  • DD slides around lots too. Her fleece pjs have sticky feet though so it gives her some traction when she pulls herself up. We also have foam tiles in the living room and she doesn't slide AS much, but still does somewhat. I'm guessing eventually they build strength to hold themselves tighter so they won't slide as much.
  • Ugh, that's what I've been considering. We're right in limbo with heating the house, it's not quite cold enough to start the woodstove but not warm enough to strip her down. :/ once the sun hits the house it warms up fast, I could start stripping her at that point I guess. :)

  • @esd puffy paint is brilliant.

This is us, too. The less she wears, the quicker she gets better at whatever gross motor skill she's working on. She's now trying to squat without holding onto anything and its much easier when she's totally naked and no diaper to get in the way.
  • What about a long sleeve onsie and leggings with no socks? We have a ton of leggings we can't even use cuz it's 105+ still...ugh, bring your cold weather here!!
  • Would puffy paint work on the knees of her pants? She has a few pair I wouldn't mind donating to the cause...

  • My lo goes without pants on hardwood, but it's still hot here. I was going to suggest the grippy sucks but that puffy paint idea is great!
  • I turned my living room into a big mat of those foam tiles but now she just crawls everywhere else. I keep her pantsless at home, mostly. I feel like after a couple of weeks of crawling, she could do it even on the slippery floors with pants. She'll get there! Working those muscles.

  • Aw thanks @tiffy1693‌ ! I didn't know they existed! I think I'll try cutting open the toe of her huge grippy socks from the hospital and using them over her knees! We got multiple pair so it won't hurt if it doesn't work. :)

@mamatoosh‌ We have 2 pair of roobeez, one is too tight and the other too lose, I can't keep them on her!

@bethughknee‌ I feel the same way, once she gets it she'll be fine (well, maybe not in the fleece... That makes her move like she's on ice, poor kid!).

Thanks for all the tips ladies! Sorry if I missed anybody. My weekend goal is to dig out the puffy paint and try it out!
