Your baby and food

So Joe went for his 9 month check up and everything looks great, but he has to go back in 4 weeks for a weight check cause he only gained one pound in 3 months. I feef him everything, and I mean everything except milk and honey, I feel like he needs more protein in his diet obviously and he is mostly blw so I guess I'm asking what are you feeding your los right now?

Re: Your baby and food

  • My LO likes grilled chicken and eggs. Those seem to be his favorites. He also likes toast, pancakes, applesauce, mandarin oranges, yogurt melts. He's had chicken sausage links before and enjoyed those too.

  • Kahlan likes eggs, pancakes, toast with some peanut butter, meatballs and marinara, meatloaf. Our 9 month check up was Thursday and her pedi was very happy with the amount of meat we're giving her. Basically anything chewable (mashable) I give her.
  • My DD only gained a pound over 3 months as well, she kind of tapered off at 17lbs, the doc wasn't too worried as long as she stayed on her growth curve. For protein, I usually give her eggs, or shredded meats, tofu or hummus spread on plain mum mums. We're like you, she gets pretty much everything and loves it all!
  • LO doesn't eat much food since she hasn't been interested until now. She wants whatever we are eating and yesterday she grabbed a handful of boiled egg right off my salad. She loves cultured coconut milk and avocados, so not much protein yet.

She also has slowed down in weight gain and I was thinking that was okay. Our pedi didn't say anything about it at her appt.

My DD only gained 1lb and now sits at 15lb 5oz and 9mo. Her doctor was fine with her weight as long as she is eating.

    She eats any and everything.

  • We do mostly BLW, too. Some of our go-tos are nut butters on whole wheat toast, quesadillas (with cheese and maybe purées beans), grilled cheese, hummus on pita or bread, plain fruit (especially stone fruits) and smoothies. (I make smoothies from frozen strawberries and milk and sometimes coconut and/or slivered almonds, or we buy them from Whole Foods or other places when they're just fruit, vegetables, and milk/coconut water/juice/etc.). We also do oatmeal everyday because our pediatrician wanted us to for the iron - we swirl in a good sized squeeze from a packet of purée, and now that he can mostly feed himself those packets, we often give him the rest to eat on it's own. Other things that have worked for us include eggs (scrambled or fried), broccoli or asparagus spears, green beans, hamburger, cheese, baked tofu...I'm trying to figure out how to work more vegetables in. We eat a fair amount of vegetables (though this is making me realize maybe not as many as I thought!), but mostly at dinner, after he goes to sleep - I need to start planning better and setting some aside for him for the next day!
  • Raylin has always been on the smaller side and now that she is mobile and EVERYwhere! all the time she has stopped gaining but hasn't lost. I think its pretty normal. At her 9 month appt she was 17.4lbs and that put her in the 32% Our pedi was happy because she was from her 6 month appt. So don't worry to much mama! I would look more at muscle tone, appetite and things like that to tell if LO is getting enough.

BTW. She eats everything! Some favs are grilled cheese, bread with a thin thin layer of jelly smeared on. Goldfish  crackers, Cheese puffs, torn up lunch meat. Watermelon, she really loves pastas and my mind is drawing a blank now.

Just offer things and take cues from your LO. :)

  • I'm in the same boat. LO got stuck for 3 months at 15.9lbs and just this week finally reached 16lbs. (9 months old).
LO eats toast with avacado or hummus spread on it for extra protein at breakfast, chicken, fish or homemade meatballs with liver hidden in them for extra protein at supper, and he snacks on everything!!
We are seeing a pediatrician soon to see what they say, but my family doctor thinks he is just going to be a scrauny guy like his parents :)

  • hes very active
