Moms of toddlers with fat feet - boot question

A couple weeks ago when we went to get LO some new shoes (which was a painful experience - apparently getting your foot sized is a bit like stepping on lava, at least according to the way LO reacted) - we discovered that his little chubby feet have gotten even chubbier and have moved from wide territory over to extra wide territory.

I have no desire to take him shoe shopping again any time soon, but I know we're going to need some boots soon - do boots tend to fit fat feet?  I mean, they don't appear to come in various widths - so I assume they'd fit?

Also - where do you shop for shoes generally?  Stride Rite is okay, but there are only a few styles that come in XW.

  • @Mrsveinotte‌ - LO's nearly there! He got 5 1/2s last time round. Maybe it is all the "stage 3" Stride Rite shoes that just aren't too forgiving of fat feet.

  • We have wide feet over her and find it's easier to get shoes on that have long tongues on the shoes. We get wide in stride rite. I found boots the other day that had like a shoe tongue with Velcro on each side of the tongue to tighten it and it was a lot easier to get her feet in those then other boots. Not sure that makes sense.. Sorry.
  • My first kid had skinny feet but a high instep so this was a problem too. And now Lo is a double wide so we are doing the same thing. I found that the cheapie Target or where ever snow boots with Velcro that has a tongue that opens all the way up is the easiest boot for fit and parents getting it on. We bought several nice pairs of Ll bean and Columbia online before resorting to Lightening McQueen from target and they fit the best!

  • Also warning to fat feet baby mamas, never buy new balance. They are made for skeleton feet. Stingy with the Velcro and the straps never make it across wide feet or high insteps! Serious just write the brand off your list, they suck! (DH loves them and I'm a Saucony forever girl so I secretly delight in the fact that his brand legitimately blows for fitting our boys. I win!)
