2nd Trimester

Rectal pressure/pain anyone?

I will be 18 weeks on Friday. A few days ago, I noticed I am getting mild pressure and increased gas (sorry TMI) in my rectal area. I was also laying in bed the other night and got a shooting severe pain from my hip to my leg while in bed. Anyway, I looked up pressure online and was terrified to find it was a symptom of preterm labor! Absolutely terrified and after not being able to reach my dr, I drove myself to the ER. They did an ultrasound, which looked fine, and told me it was probably constipation and sent me on my way. I'm still worried though! I did notice baby was breech and laying low next to my bladder. Could that cause pressure? I usually feel her kicking low in the pelvic area. Is there any chance they actually looked at my cervix in the ultrasound to rule out dilation? She didn't say anything, but saw my cervix labeled on the screen. :-/ My OB told me today to only worry if I start bleeding. I have an appt next Thursday. If anyone has similar symptoms, please share!

Re: Rectal pressure/pain anyone?

  • I'm not pregnant and I get mild pressure and increased gas when I'm constipated/have to poop. Most likely they did their jobs right. If you're having no other symptoms you're probably fine and overreacting. If you start having other symptoms then I would contact your doctor.

  • I think it's gas and baby position too, but I guess I just worked myself up into a frenzy when I read up on incompetent cervix. Google is a horrible thing for paranoid people like me!! I have been a hypochondriac this whole pregnancy.
  • I have had the same thing and my doctor said it is completely normal because the growing baby puts pressure on our organs which puts pressure on our parts down there as well
  • it's normal but I understand how scary it can be!  It happens to me atleast weekly

  • This pressure and pain will unfortunately only get worse the farther along and the bigger your baby gets!

  • Yep, I have that too. I have had two miscarriages so I freak out about it. I have a dr. appt. every two weeks to check my cervix and its all good. I hope it helps you feel better, you are not the only one.
  • I went in today to my Dr and she checked my cervix. It was so high up that she couldn't even find it, which she said is where it's supposed to be. She just said the baby is sitting low and that's why I'm feeling pressure there and on my bladder. Felt so relieved! Can't wait for my anatomy scan on the 21st!  :D
