Uterus transplant

Did anyone hear about the woman in Sweden who just gave birth after a uterus transplant? I didn't even know that was possible! I think it's amazing.

It also made me realize I spend a little too much time here because I yelled to my husband "omg a lady got a ute transplant!!" Oops....

Okay, I just read an article about it. Thought this excerpt was worth a share -

"The donated womb came from the woman's own mother, so the baby is also the first born to a woman using the same womb from which she emerged herself."

@bdazzld‌ Maybe! ^ That's the article I read. It does mention that they have to eventually remove the uterus to avoid potential issues with rejection.
I feel so awful for the lady who had the transplant then got cancer in it :(! How horrible!

  • I don't know what article I read (saw it on Facebook) but it said the uterus was donated from a 61 year old family member. If it was her mother than that's really, really interesting. Two or three other women are past the viability stage as well. I think this is going to be an awesome thing for reproductive science.
