Prenatal vitamins?

We met with an RE today for the first time and they recommended starting to take prenatal vitamins. They suggested that they have double dose of folic acid, DHA, and 400mg of co-q10. Does anyone recommend a brand?

There's so much info on this board. Going to try to be more active. Thanks for being so welcoming.

Re: Prenatal vitamins?

  • Hi Welcome!!  I don't have a brand to recommend w. co-q10 (that I know of, but mine might have that?).  I used Rainbow Light and New Chapter. I've liked both.

  • I've also taken (and been happy with) New Chapter. You can get them on Amazon, or at Pharmaca, etc.

  • I don't know which pre-natals, really.  We both took or are taking the Costco ones.  The baby from my system turned out well, for what that is worth. :)  DW took a bunch of the gummy ones when she was sick feeling, since the iron can exacerbate digestive troubles.

    Good luck, and welcome!

  • I started out taking Rainbow Light while TTC, and at about 8 wks pregnant I switched to the gummy vitafusion prenatals and the gummy calcium and fiber supplements. Unfortunately, due to morning sickness and a wicked gag reflux, I couldn't seem to choke down (or keep down) the non-gummy prenatals after that. My OB reassured me that the gummies that I was taking were just fine. I did end up on an iron supplement later in pregnancy because I was anemic, but I think that had more to do with my diet and less to do with my prenatals.

Also, welcome! Tell us a little more about yourself when you are ready! :)

  • So many kinds- thanks!  Yeah, multi vitamins are tricky.....in the past (not prenatal), so many have made me nauseous.
  • I can't take vitamins in the morning (pre-natal or not) due to nausea, but found that if I take them with dinner I have no tummy issues. That's just what worked for me. And I buy whatever brand I have a coupon for as long as it contained DHA.

Generic from Walgreens with the DHA supplement works for me.  I also took them at mealtime to help with nausea.  Good luck!

I always take mine right before bed. It's my "TTC cocktail" I call it. 1 prenatal, 2 100mg ubiquinol and a baby aspirin.
