Ok, I'll try not to be too long winded here, but holyshitguise, I'm a mom! :x
So I had my 39 week checkup on Monday, 9/29. My OB checked my cervix, and said I was still high, tight, and locked up tighter than Fort Knox. She figured I would more than likely go beyond my due date and I'd need an induction. Well, fast forward to the next night when my labor started. The clock struck midnight, signaling October had officially began, and I felt a small gush in my underwear. No joke, at EXACTLY midnight. I went and checked, and it was a clear liquid and I couldn't diagnose if it was pee or not, so of course I did what any reasonable pregnant woman would do, and I posted in the Randoms thread and asked internet people for their advice.
I laid back down for a bit and started feeling cramping in my ute/lower back. I thought for sure it was all in my head because I wanted to be in labor. But when it kept coming, I decided to attempt to time them. All the while updating the Randoms thread (priorities, yo). Once I got a handle on timing them, they were consistently 5 minutes apart. I'd called L&D twice at this point and paced the length of the entire house a bajillion times. I finally decided after 2 hours of constant cramping 5-6 minutes apart that it was time to go. I hopped in the shower and labored here for a bit and we got on the road around 2:45am. We got all checked into L&D by 3:30, and the nurse checked my cervix. I was dilated to 3cm. They were then going to monitor me for an hour and see if I progressed to at least 4. If not, I had to go home. I was so worried I'd be sent home only to turn around and come right back, because the hospital is 30-35 minutes from us. Anyway, at 4:30am DH had stepped out for a split second to ask the nurse something and I had a particularly hard contraction, and the flood gates opened. ALL OVER THE BED. Initiate MrsSinner freaking out now. Holy shit, it's really happening!
After my water broke, contractions got hard and intense really fast. I was dilated to 5-6 and FINALLY got the epidural around 8am (I think? I'd lost track of time at this point). The epidural was the best thing that happened to me at that point because holyfuck contractions were SO BAD. While getting the epidural in, I was already feeling the urge to push. She was riding really low and ready to come out but I wasn't dilated enough yet. So after the epidural all I felt was pressure down there.
Around 9:30 the doctor came in and asked if I wanted to start trying to push because LO was less than a knuckle deep. So I said what the hell, lets give it a try! (While actually in my head I was still thinking holyfuck holyfuck omg). So, we commenced the pushing phase. She was stuck in the birth canal FACE UP. She was a sunny side up girl. I pushed hard for 1.5 hours, and the doctor then decided to use the vacuum to assist because of her position. She came out at 10:58am. She was a little quiet when she first came out so they had a respiratory therapist there and he and the nurse were stimulating her and trying to get her to cry good. Of course I was a mess and worried about her, but I didn't need to be. She turned out to be fine. She had a SUPER cone head and has a bad blister on her head as well, but other than that, she is absolutely perfect. 6lbs 14oz, 20 1/4" long. She's such a quiet baby, and we're finally breast feeding alright. My boobs are on fire, but it's so rewarding and makes me so happy that we got to work with the lactation consultant and a physical therapist that gave her a cranial massage to loosen up her jaw muscles to help latching. Sunny side up babies are often very stiff and sore because of their position, so she helped tremendously.
We had fantastic staff, ended up staying the full 48 hours, and got home around 1pm today. Got her all fed and settled and now DH is sleeping on the couch and I'm watching her in her little swing being all perfect and stuff. The cats have been hilarious so far. Just extremely curious. She will get to meet our dog here sometime this afternoon when DHs cousin brings her home. Sorrynotsorry about the ginormous pics. I thought you'd like to see just HOW cute she is. ;;)
