Anyone experience anovulatory cycles?

DH and I have been TTC #2 officially since August, but NTNP since March - DS was a pleasant surprise, so this whole thing is SO new - and frustrating!

Anyways, I'm trying to figure this charting thing out and it appears that perhaps I won't be ovulating this cycle - but I'm on CD24 and my OPK says I've already peaked. No temp surge to be found, as of yet, and I typically get AF on CD 31. I've been taking my temp at the same wake-up time every morning, so I don't think it's user error.

Anyone else have a similar experience? Or is my cycle just that wonky?

Note - I totally know that regardless, I'd need to BD to actually MAKE a baby! DH just moved and I'm stuck in our old house trying to sell, but I'm hoping to use this time apart to figure out my cycles.

Re: Anyone experience anovulatory cycles?

  • It could just be that you had a false surge this cycle - you had an LH surge but didn't O. If that's the case (and assuming you're not having anovulatory cycles), you will probably have another surge later in your cycle and O then. Keep an eye on your temps - if they don't go up, you didn't O.

  • I agree with Kelly. CD 24 is by no means too late to O. You could just be having a weird cycle. Keep using OPK's to see if you have another LH surge, and keep temping to confirm whether or not you O. I normally only ovulate after CD 30. I do have PCOS so my situation is a little different, but don't give up hope yet.

  • Thanks, ladies! I'm hoping perhaps it's stress induced? I always thought it was a bit suspect that stress can affect ovulation that much, but DH moved last week and I'm still working full time, taking care of DS and trying to get our house sold pronto so we can complete the moving process. Add TTC to the equation and I'd say it's been a bit stressful!

My typical cycle seems to have leveled out in the past six months to 31 days, so I'm hoping this was just a weird one.

  • FWIW, I'm on CD 21 and haven't O'd yet even though I usually O right around CD 14. But around CD14 this cycle, DH was in the ICU, so it's not a big surprise to me that things are late this cycle. I don't think I'm not going to O (although I do know of one anovulatory cycle I've had in the past), but who knows.

  • Thanks @kelly321. I'm so sorry to hear about DH and hope everything is alright!

Since this is the first month we've officially charted so we don't have to BD constantly, I was expecting everything to be very textbook and simple. It seems to have left me with more questions than answers at this point. Regardless, once AF comes I will at least know where we stand for this month and can re-evaluate my chart next month and see if this was just a fluke.

  • I usually O around CD 15 and just got a positive OPK today. So you are not out of the game. We all have weird cycles.

  • My O this cycle happened on CD36! So keep charting! A cane today for me so I'm not knocked up. :(

  • Since we started TTC, my usually 28-29 day cycle has turned into a 22-24 day cycle. On top of that, this month I got to deal with a 17 day period, my body sucks. It seems like TTC seems to bring out all the crazy in our bodies. DS was a happy surprise for us as well, and now we're on cycle 6 of trying, I completely understand that frustration. Good luck and hopefully you ovulate soon!

  • Why does TTC make our bodies so cray cray! I got a big temp rise yesterday so I'm hoping that was it, especially since it would jive with the positive OPKs I had.

Wishing us all BFPs who are TTC!
