Talking to baby

Hello. I will be 16 weeks on Saturday, and am wondering at what week baby girl can hear us (or noises like music if my husband plays the guitar). I've read different things. We talk to her all the time but I'm curious to know if she hears us.

Re: Talking to baby

  • I read somewhere yesterday that the baby can hear sounds starting at week 15. Not sure if that helps.

  • I've read that hearing begins at 16 weeks, but that at that point she can only hear your heart beat and voice.  It develops gets better each day after that, so I'm sure if she's not hearing your husband playing guitar yet, she will be soon!  So keep talking and playing to her!

  • We have been talking to baby since around that time - it can't hurt to start anyway, even if she can't hear everything just yet. I talk to my son periodically throughout the day and SO talks to him everyday and at night before we go to sleep.
  • Even if they can't totally hear you yet, it's a good habit to start and bonding activity for you and your SO, imo
  • I dont think ill talk to baby, he hears me enough as is. If I do it wont be until well in the third trimester. But, I think its a good idea for dad to talk to baby so he can bond with baby.
