how many kids?

I guess this is sort of a poll...

How many kids would you like to have? Why that number? Is your significant other on the same page?

Re: how many kids?

  • I would like either 2 or 3. I think DH only wants 2 though. I just don't want to have an only child - I think siblings can have so much fun together!

  • I think 3 is going to be our number.  We're TTC #2 right now.  If it ends up being a girl, then we might stick with 2, but somehow I'm doubtful of that - DH's family is notorious for being boy-makers.  If we have another boy, we've decided that we'll adopt a third to ensure that we get a girl.

I think 2 is our number. The hubs would be ok with 1 but I would rather have 3, so 2 is our compromise.

This is us exactly. I think I will be content with two - I just don't want to have an only child.

  • We used to both want three, but #2 has been rough. I would still like to consider having three but I'm pretty sure my husband is not on board with that anymore. I feel very conflicted about it right now because we are getting ready to move, and I feel like we should get rid of all of our baby stuff now rather than move it if we are really done. That just seems so final  - I guess I'm not ready to totally give up the possibility of a third.

  • Current plan is for 3.  We have more or less agreed on 3.  My wife has the stipulation that if baby #3 is another boy (we have 1 here and another here in a couple weeks), then she wants to go for 4.  I'm ok with that as long as 3 doesn't prove to be too much (financially, emotionally or physically).
  • I have 3 kids I did not thank I wold ever have 3. I wold like to have more but now I can so we or happy whith the 3 we'd have
  • I also want 3, SO is stuck at 2. I was an only child so that is completely out of the question. I hated not having any siblings :/
  • @Fayga while we were TTC my husband always joked about having 10! Now that our DD is three months old he is convinced that having 2 would probably be better. We will probably start trying again soon since it took 3 yrs to get pregnant!

  • I find it interesting that most people want 2 or 3 kids these days. Big families seem to be mostly a thing of the past. Maybe some of it has to do with the trend of starting your family later in life. Anyways....

Like most of you, I want 2 kids. DH wants 3. Our first child is due in July and I'm sure this experience will determine which one of us wins the number of babies battle.

  • I think a large reason you see a lack of larger families is the sheer cost.  I believe I read that it costs roughly $1,000,000 from birth to age 18 to raise a child.  With more and more people having to be 2 income families, daycare becomes a bigger thing and quite frankly, daycare is expensive.  I know a few 2 income families who dropped to 1 income families because the 2nd income almost went entirely into daycare expenses.

I was an older 1st time dad... 35 when our first was born.  I'm hoping to be done by the time I'm 41 or 42 at the latest.  It'll be bad enough that I'd be near 60 for my youngest's graduation and probably will be confused for his or her grandfather at that point... I don't really want to go much older than that.
  • I'm happy with 2. We're expecting #2 now. But H just said he wants 5 or more...so we will see. He and I are both one of 6.
  • I always said 6 was a nice round number, but hoping for 1 at 42yo, means probably wont get to 6, DH always told people 2, but he had 3 before he ever met me... so here goes ;-)

  • I just found out today I'm pregnant with my 4th!!!! I have three boys already and this will be our last baby, so I would really like for this one to be a girl! ;-)
  • I'm expecting #2 December 2014. If this LO is a boy, we are done. If not, we may try for a 3rd.
  • We want 4.  It's an even number and 2 doesn't seem like enough, but we've had so many people tell us not to stop at 3 because then one kid always feels left out and it's just hard having an odd number.  But we wanted 4 before we heard that anyway.
  • We are on number 2 . Have Ds now will have DD in Jan. We always talked 3 but now he wants just the two. I had 3 losses so that was the biggest factor for him.
