Looooong Nap

I'm in trouble. LO took a 5 hour nap. I can see my next 12 hours already. See what happened is:
This afternoon I took LO with me to visit a friend who also recently had a baby. I was stir crazy and needed to get out of the house. Before I left I fed him, packed him up around 4:30 and brought him home. He fell asleep on the way home (@20 min drive) and has been asleep ever since. He just woke up (9:55pm).
WTF.
I told DH that hopefully he'll go back to sleep, but I'm thinking that will not happen. DH asked if I slept and I did not b/c Murphy's Law states that if I would have gone to sleep, LO would have woken up. Now it's freggin 10pm, I'm tired, baby is awake, and Murphy's Law prevails.
I'm currently pumping so immediately afterwards I can go try to sleep and leave DH to put LO to bed.
Is there a way to counter act the effects of a such a long nap and get back on schedule!?!? Should LO be woken up if his nap exceeds a certain amount of time? Why the hell can't he sleep like this at night?

Re: Looooong Nap

  • Maybe he'll keep sleeping? Let us know what happens. My LO has been asleep since 6:30. I wondering the same.

  • Some people think you should wake from naps. I'm in the never ever wake a sleeping baby camp and it has yet to backfire on me.

  • DS has had a few long nap days, and so far it hasn't impacted night sleep. its the reverse (keeping them awake by day) that can backfire

  • I would have woken mine up by changing his diaper around 8 to feed him. We do this every night if he is asleep at this time, it hasn't backfired on us yet. But I find my LO is pretty easy going, he goes down every night by 9:30. We don't have a schedule during the day, but we do at night and it really seems to help us.
