Cloth Diapering

Just got my order of Alvas- already HATE the AIO? (Fluff pics included!)

So I put in an order of Alva pockets, but one of the prints I wanted only came in double gusset AIO. Well I got them today, and while I am mostly happy with the pockets (though they are bigger than I was expecting) the AIO seems TERRIBLE! There is only one rise adjustment set of snaps, so its either small or large, and half the amount of waist snaps as the pocket diapers. This thing is HUGE, and I can't imagine it fitting on a baby smaller than 20lbs or so.

At this point, it isn't worth sending back one diaper, but I am wondering if anyone else came across this issue. I really like the pockets I got, the prints are adorable and they seem well made for the price (not even close to my BGs, but hey, they are $5 instead of $20) but this AIO is making me sad. I guess now I am glad I didn't order more of the AIO diapers... I really wanted a mustache one!

In the bottom picture, see how much bigger the cute monster one is than the pocket diapers? Its huge!

  • That is quite a bit larger.  Maybe when LO gets big it will be fine though.

I didn't even know alvas had AIOs.

  • I wouldn't send it back.  A. because they are so affordable it's probably not worth the hassle.  B. it may fit great on your LO down the road.  I have gone through phases w/ my dipes that I don't think they are fitting great and then the next month they are.  Babies change shapes all the time.  And C. be happy you only got one and the others fit great.  If it was the other way round...

I think they are just starting them, only a few prints come in AIO. The insert that is sewn in seems thinner than a regular pocket insert too, which sucks. But I can always line it with a prefold, I guess.  I am going to prep it and try it on my nephew who is two and see how it fits him. He's a pretty small kid, so probably about 20-25lbs. Definitely sticking with the pockets if I end up ordering more though. I guess I am glad I got prefolds and covers for when little guy is small since even the pockets seem to be bigger than my BG's.

Very true. It could be worse. I think it would probably cost more than the diaper is worth to send it back, so I am definitely keeping it, just a little sad that it probably won't fit for a long time. I don't have a baby to try it on yet as I still have a few months until I am due, so I am only speculating at this point. My DD was tiny (6lbs) and NOTHING fit her until a few months in anyways. This baby could have the same issue, or come out 10lbs, who knows,

  • DD was 5 lbs.  DS was 8 lbs.  They are all different.

That is quite possibly the cutest print ever though!!!

Also... I tried to cancel an order from Alva once.  It was nightmarish.

  • On the plus side, you will have a cute print to break out when LO is bigger without having I go buy new fluff.

  • I ordered that same one in an aio too and was surprised when I got it! I love how regular alvas fit DD, so I wanted to try their aio, especially since it has double gussets and a pocket for adding extra inserts.

I have a peanut of a baby. I'm guessing she's about 15 lbs at 8 months and it fits her great (fit when I got them a month ago) But I doubt it would fit much smaller of a baby. I'm just not sure what I'm going to do with less snaps around the waist. I'm hoping the double guessets will make up a bit for the lack of middle rise snaps.

I love the print too much to really care though.
