Trouble TTC

Any Helpful Hands out there?

Has anyone helped out their DH with their sperm donation before and IUI?  When it was time for DHs male fertility testing he was recovering from second/third degree burns on his hands from a work accident, so I helped him out.  He wants me to do the same for the IUI.  I am sure they would let me if I asked, but was wondering if anyone else did this?  It does seem more of a joint process by doing it this way.

Me: 28 DH: 28

Married: 6 years

 TTC since: Sept 2010

Diagnosis: Stage 4 Endometriosis, Hashimoto's

Treatment: Lupron (3/2010 – 9/2010 & 7/2013 – 2/2014)

April 2013 - BFP – missed mc confirmed 5/08/2014. D&C 5/22/2014

Sept/Oct 2014: IUI #1 (Gonal F + HCG) = BFN

Oct/Nov 2014: Temporarily Benched due to multiple cysts on each ovary.

Nov 27: IUI #2 (Gonal F + HCG) = BFP

Re: Any Helpful Hands out there?

  • When DH did his SA he "collected" at home, and I helped. I had no idea going in the room with him there was even an option haha, but if we get to IUI's maybe I would try it. Do they always have to give the sample at the office for IUI, or can he still collect at home? I feel like he would be a lot more comfortable doing it at home and taking it in, if that was possible.

    Me: 27 DH: 35

  • We always have collected at home too and I usually help, makes it more of an "us" process during the IUI. Unless he's at work, then he's on his own and I do a drive by to pick it up.

  • We live in a REALLY small community about three hours away from our clinic so at home wasn't even given to us as an option.  I am glad that DH wants my help, it makes me feel like we are in it all together.

  • I have nothing to add, but the title and content of this thread really made me smile tonight! It's the little things :)
  • My RE said not to give a helping hand. My H always wants me to "help" but I didn't because the RE advised against it. I feel bad for him, he finds it so awkward. The day of my ER he has to do it at the office and he's already dreading it.

  • I didn't help DH with his SA because I had to cover his office for him. But we just did IUI#1 yesterday and I went with him to the room on his request but we both learned that next time I will just stay in the waiting room.

  • I just send DH in by himself and when he whined about it I politely reminded him that he gets an orgasm, I get to lay in stirrups and get a wand shoved up my vagina. Then again he's only had to do it twice, once for the SA and once for an IUI.

If he was unable to so it on his own I would totally help. I say to each their own!

  • We're still technically in the testing stages but both times DH has had to do a SA I've been both hands on (literally) and a visual aid. Feels less awkward that way.
    Me: 24 | DH: 25
    Married: May 2013
    TTC: Since Sept. 2013
Me: unusually short cycles, anovulation, possible tubal issue on right side
DH: Azoospermia, likely not blockage, just doesn't produce any
  • At our office, DH has to go in alone if he gets the sample there, but we live close and have been able to bring it from home each time. DH asks me to help each time, but then when he's ready he kicks me out so he can have some privacy, he said having me there makes him feel too much pressure.  No electronics in there with him so I am very relieved that I do not have to compete with porn stars, I don't have the confidence to deal with that!!

Okay you guys are making me feel like a total bitch.  I never help.   I figured after going through daily shots to the belly, temping, 6:30am ultrasounds 3x per week, vag pills, IUI, bloodwork every other day, analyzing my follie sizes 24/7,  going through the massive IUI cramps...  the least he could do was jack off on his own.  I don't want to do everything.

He did whine that I didn't "help" him once and I WENT OFF on him.  I guess I'm not as good a wife as I thought!  I'm still not helping though.
This exactly. I have never helped once.
Lol this is how I feel, I really hated serving as a "visual aid" etc., but I'm always so afraid he won't have success on time and mess up our baby making plans so I give in and do whatever!! IF makes me feel like I have no self-respect sometimes, ugh.

  • I have helped when we are doing IUI.  He asked me to so I did it.  It was awkward walking into the room at first but whatever.  We have done one collection at home at like 6 am and I tried to help and it just didn't work.  For his SAs, he did it by himself.

He also gives me my shots and comes with me to as many appointments as he can.

Side note - our RE has pretty normal magazine porn but the videos have the most raunchy titles and pictures ever.  I really want to find out what nurse ordered those lol

    **EVERYONE WELCOME!! :)**

  • DH has only had to do this once so far.  Our RE allows help, and I offered, but DH declined saying it was awkward enough.  I would help him if he ever asked.  He comes to every appointment he can, and I know if he could take a shot or an ultrasound for me, he would.
  • The obtaining of semen specimens are sacred acts solely between my husband and his Jennifer Lawrence nudes.  I wouldn't want to interfere.

I'm totally with @Rumbera28.  Jizzing into a cup is literally the only thing he has to do to contribute to this process, aside from listening to me complain about the endless amount of shit that I have to do.  I think he can handle it on his own.  If he ever complains, God help him.  It really pisses me off when I hear ladies talking about their husband jerking it into a cup like it's some kind of huge sacrifice or favor.  We both want a baby, it's not like it's just something he's doing to make me happy.  It's for us.

Also, hand jobs bring back awkward high school memories.  No thanks!

  • I've never helped either (and besides the SA, all 3 collections so far were at home). And now that you all know from previous posts the new record is 18 minutes. . .well, why would I? :)

Side note: this is so TMI, and my husband would kill me if he knew I wrote about this online, but the SA was done at a clinic near his work (our group has offices all over). He said he didn't feel the need to use the room provided. . because (wait for it. . .) it was 7:30 a.m., and no one was there, so he jacked off in the car, in the underground parking garage (they had already given us the cup). Yep. Ok. Kind of awesome though, right? :)
This is amazing lol. Forget road head when you can do road hand... amiright?
