9 pm to Midnight

9 pm to Midnight are horrible at our house! Lo feeds between 9 and 10, will sleep for 10-15 min, then wake up crying and cannot be happy. Every night something different is wrong: needs to burp, pacifier falls out a billion times, is hungry again an hour later, the wind shifts- I just don't know! Help!

Re: 9 pm to Midnight

  • This. For the past three nights now. I'm still rocking the bassinet as I type. Ughhh

  • This is us too. Since his birth, DS becomes hysterical in the late evenings. From exactly 9pm to midnight, like you. It becomes very frustrating becomes he legit screams and nothing seems to soothe him. He eventually just passes out on either SO's and i's chest.

  • Just starting this past week, from 8-10:30 LO is a beast, nothing seems to soothe him until he falls asleep, but then sleeps through most of the night into late morning...hopefully this too shall pass. He's also skipped a usual long afternoon nap everyday...exhausting.
  • Yup here too but it starts at 8:30 and ends at 11 or 11:30. It's so damn exhausting. But then he sleeps until 6am usually. It's been going on for the last 3 weeks. I'm over it

  • We have the same issue. It's hard for us to get him to go down at bedtime as he is just screaming. Our bedtime routine starts at 8:30 because it ends around 11 or 11:30. We hope it's just a phase. For us, we are coming up on 6 weeks so it might be his growth spurt? We are trying to remain calm and roll with it but it's hard. I'm sorry you're dealing with this too and wish I had some advice.

  • Ugh...sorry you all have this problem too :(
  • Yes, yes, yes. And my kid refuses sleep during the day. I'm lucky if he takes two half hour naps. Today's "nap" was 12:05-12:30. What is that crap?! He's so over tired but no matter what I do he won't sleep...my arms are going to fall off.

  • I hear ya, @kiley820‌
The short naps are so hard to do anything for yourself. I bump one handed while LO nurses.
  • @mikrinikki‌ I just ask the Ped. about this yesterday. We do last feeding between 9:30-10:30 usually and sometimes he'll be up until 2 or 3 am doing the same things your LO does. The Ped.basically said there's nothing you can do and it'll pass. She said it seems common around the 4-6 weeks. She told me to Just keep trying burping, feeding, changing, swaddling, rocking...whatever other comforting things I can think of. She did mention avoiding foods that make me gassy and avoiding too much dairy. Not the answer we were hoping for :(

  • @missmimsyy Thank you for your suggestion of using a pumped bottle!!!!! Last night lo nursed at 10. By 10:30 she was "asleep". 10:45 wide awake. 11:00 crying. I tried burping, walking around, putting in bouncer, etc. Nothing worked. Gave her a bottle of pumped milk. She ate 1/2 oz, food coma, asleep!!

@OutdoorGirl10‌ Ugh....weeks more of this? Yikes! I will definitely need to get a nap in before 9 every night now so I have enough patience for this...
  • This was us, except it was 9 PM - 3 am. Awful. I started waking LO every 3 hours to eat during the day and it's helped our evenings / nights immensely. Good luck!

  • We had this for about two weeks. I'm not sure if the nightly bath and rock and play that helped or if it's truly just a phase.

She also went from eating every 3-4 hours round the clock to a 6-8 hour stretch at night but then eating every 2 hours during the day.

  • Yep. This is our witching hours sometimes too. Some days are better than others. It was the worst 5-7 weeks and now it's a few days a week. Generally it's bc they are overstimulated by that time of night, and gas, too many kisses, hunger seems like overload to them. I've found a little catnap at 7ish is good

  • We totally did bath, change diaper, feed. Worked like a charm! Slept from 10:30-3!
  • Huh- the night we did bath was also a great sleep night.... Low crying and in bed and asleep by 10. Trying again tomorrow night!
